Minutes for April 17th, 1961, Meeting
On April 17th, 1961, at 7:30 p.m, the eohnert Park Recreation Commission met
at 695n Commerce Boulevard, Cotati, California, for their regular bi-monthly
public meeting. All members of the Commission were in attendance.
Under Old Business, the letter to Mr. Jack Anderson was read advising Me.
Andersen that he was accepted, for the position of Pool Manager of the Rohnert
Park Swim Pool, jointly by the Rohnert Park Recreation Commission and the
Rohnert Park Community Services District.
Discussion was held regard ine the Rental of the Rohnert ?ark Swim Pool by the
Cooke School. Mrs. Cochran will check with the pool menaeer to see if it is
economically feas'ble to heat the pool at this time of the year for rental
purposes. Prs. Cochran will advise Dale :eenroe of her findings and .r. °onroe,
in turn, will advise Cooke School as to the availability of the pool.
The next item of discussion was the over-all operation and development budget
for "A" neighborhood park site. The budget discussion was opened by 'Ars.
Thiesfeld who is working on this item. Mrs. Thiesfeld presented her break-
down and method of working out the budget which met with the approval of the
other members. Mrs. Thiesfeld advised. that it would be necessary to have
an estimate of the cost of the proposed sprinkler system, landscaping and
sewage lines by an expert in these fields. Prickets Nursery in Santa Rosa,
was suggested for the service of sprinkler system and landscaping by Mrs.
:hiesfeld. The Commission advised that she contact :rickets and see what
411/ could be worked out along these lines. The budget information for the
Rohnert Park Swim Pool, which will be incorporated into the over-all park
budget will he obtained from Mrs. Cochran. 'he expenditures for the proposed
Community iuilding will be obtained from ,tialt Morris. .he remaining items
in the budget will be worked out by i`1rs. 'lhiesfeld.
Discussion of fill for the park site was then taken up. Walt eorris advised
that the e' uipment to be used for transporting the fill free of charge has
been removed from this area. Furt._er arrangements for obtaining the park
fill will be handled by .salt eorris and D'.le Monroe.
The Rohnert ?ark Swim Pool Budget was next discussed. Mrs. Cochran advised
that she would meet with ' r. Anderson, the pool manager, and would work out
the budget for presentation to the Commission at their next meeting.
The handling of the `.'•ohnert Park Swim Pool Concessions was next discussed.
Mrs. Cochran advised the Commission as to how the concessions are handled by
the ''''ontgomery Village Pool. The Commission discussed the amount of rental
they felt should be charged to a private concessionaire. The Commission
then decided to invite Mr. Robinson, who is interested in prival.ely handling
the Rohnert Park Pool Concessions, to their next meetinrr. The secretary
was instructed to contact Mr. Rubinson and invite him to tee next meeting.
she "A" neighborhood Community !3uildinr was next discussed. T'r. Peter
Callanan, member of the board of ei.rectors of the Community ervices i)istri ct,
was called to the meeting to answer the financial ouestions on the possibilities
of providing such a building. The Commission was interested in asking `•r.
Callanan, who handles the finances of the District, how monies could be
obtained to finance construction. The Co-mission suggested Betting a loan
from a bank for a basic amount and trying for free donations of materials
and labor when possible. Walt eorris advised that a shell block building

60 x 100 would run approximately 20,000.00. This area could include kitchen
f=cilities, office space, storage space and rest-room facilities. It was
discussed that the office space could be used by the district until such
time as the District could re-locate in the future civic :enter of Rohnert
Park. It was felt that the rental spent by the )istrict now could be used
to help pay off the loan for the building and that when the office space could
be vacated by the District, the Recreation Commission would be enlarged into
a recreation Department and would have need of this space. :'alt leorris will
investigate the design, cost and financing of the community building.
Rohnert Park Swim Pool advertisement was reported on by iiaxine :enzies. She
advised that a story for the papers will be put in the forthcoming editions
of the local papers regarding pool memberships. It was advised that posters
were made and distributed by 'eirs. Thiesfeld pertaining to buying pool member-
ships. Mrs. Menzies advised she was having applications for pool memberships
mimeographed for use by the Commissioners in their house to house canvas
for pool memberships. The Commission decided that the canvas should be
completed before the next meeting. hrs. i_enzies asked for signs pertaining
to pool memberships be made and put up around the community. 4alt Morris
will provide the wood, Mrs. Thiesfeld will paint the signs and . rs. Yenzi.es
will put them up.
• The Opening Day Program for the Rohnert Park Swim Pool was next discussed.
Mrs. Thiesfeld suggested having a contest to name the park in conjunction
with the opening day. A committee was appointed by the Commission Chairman
to handle the pool opening. Maxine Menzies and Elizabeth Cochran are co-
chairmen.
Under New 3usiness, "rs. Thiesfeld advised that colored plans for "A"
neighborhood park site were made and distributed to all the }recreation
Commissioners and the realty offices in Rohnert Park.
D-1e Monroe advised that the grass on the "A" neighborhood park site had
been mowed free of charge.
Painting of the building and fence at the Rohnert Park Swim Pool was next
discussed. Dale ':onroe volunteered to arrange for the paint and labor involved.
The Commission decided on the color of paint to be used to be either green
or blue.
Policy to be set for the pool manager was next discussed. '!he Commission
decided to invite the manager to their next regular meeting. Mrs. Cochran
will contact Mr. Anderson for this purpose.
The raved parking area infront of the Rohnert Park Swim Pool was next dis-
cussed. Yrs. Thiesfeld advised that she would obtain the exact measuremenis
410 of the area and. give this information to :+alt 'orris. Mr. Morris will then
contact, Siri or Araganaut regarding the cost for paving of the area.
Bike Tacks for the pool area were discussed next. Norm Francisco will report
on the obtaining of these racks at the next meeting.

Dale Monroe advised that he will contact Mr. Miller, Superintendant of the
Cotati School District regarding the possibility of obtaining used playground
eouipment.
Maxine Menzies reported on the various low budget recreational activities
that could be held in the future for the children of the community. They
were bike, kite and frog contests. Future discussion of this will be held
at the next meeting.
The next meeting was set for the home of Mrs. Richard Cochran, 3143 Arlen Drive,
Rohnert Park at 7:30 p.m.
The meeting wasthen adjourned.
