On May 1st, 1961, at 7:30 p.m. , the Rohnert Park Recreation Commission met
at the home of Elizabeth Cochran for their regular bi-monthly meeting.
Commissioners in attendance were: Maxine i-ienzies, Norman Francisco,
Elizabeth Cochran and Nancy Thiesfeld.
The Recreation Commission had requested, by mail and personal phone conversa-
tion, the presence of Mr. Robinson for the purpose of discussing Mr. Robinson's
handling of the Rohnert Park Swim Pool Concessions. Mr. Robinson advised
Mrs. Cochran prior to this meeting that he would be unable to attend and gave
his proposal for handling the concessions. Mr. Robinson proposes giving
10% of the net sales to the Commission. It was felt by the Commission that
further discussion on this proposal should be conducted with Ir. Robinson
in person. The secretary was instructed to send Mr. Robinson a letter to this
affect.
Discussion of rental of the Rohnert Park Swim Pool by the Cooke School was
held. Mrs. Cochran advised that her inquiry in the matter revealed that it
would be too expensive to heat the pool for one day's use at this time of the
year. The secretary was instructed to tell Dale Monroe to advise the Cooke
School of the Commission's feeling on this matter.
Maxine Menzies advised that she was preparing a feature story for the news-
papers regarding the opening of the Rohnert Park Swim Pool and also the
• availability of the pool for rental by private organizations. Mrs. Menzies
also advised that she would try to get better news coverage by the Santa
Rosa Press Democrat of Rohnert park Activities.
i rs. Thiesfeld next discussed her proc'ress on the 1961-62 Recreation Budget.
The Commission felt that 2 budget studies should be made. ..one study to con-
sist of an approximate budget for the complete operation and development of
the "A" neighborhood nark and one budget study for the 1961-62 development
and operation of the "A" neighborhood park.
Mrs. Thiesfeld advised that she met with Nyska Ruditsky, Landscape Designer
for Pricket's Nursery. 'she suggestions of :•iiss Ruditsky were told to the Com-
mission. Mrs. Thiesfeld advised that Miss ihiditsky stated that to obtain
like service from a landscape architect would involve a fee of approximately
0.000.00. Miss Ruditsky's service includes a landscaping plan, a sprinkler
system plan, suggestions for placement of restroom facilities, lighting facil-
ities and drinking fountain facilities. M.ss Ruditsky will contact hrs.
Thiesfeld in the near future and advise the approximate cost of the lands-
caping and sprinkler system. Mrs. Ruditsky's p]a n will be such as to allow
step by step completion.
The Commission requested .rs. Thiesfeld to contact Harry Sumieawa and 'er.
''.en Smith to incuire if they could perform the above service free of charge.
It was advised by Miss Ruditsky that the Recreation Commission have a plan
411 drawn up for the sewage lines as these would have to go in before the land-
scaping and sprinkler system.

• The secretary was instructed to write a letter to the Rohnert Park Community
Services District recommending that a plan for sewage lines be drawn up by
an engineer. The letter of recommendation should also include the location
of the rest room facilities. The Commission recommended that the rest room
facilities should be located in the proposed community building and in the
area of the proposed position of the baseball field.

Anderson was in attendance at this meeting by reruest of the Commission,
to discuss policy of the Rohnert Park Swim Pool mana' ement.
Discussion was held regarding the distribution of swim pool memberships in
exchange for improvements to the "A" Neighborhood Park site. The Commission
ruled against such action due to past experience of considerable confusion.
The obtaining of a diving board before the pool opening was discussed. The
pool manager strongly favored getting a board in view of public relations.
The Commission supported his feeling. Elizabeth Cochran was appointed to
ineuire at various agencies to determine the cost of an aluminum board. Lids
are to be mailed to the Recreation Secretary. Mr. Anderson advised that the
approximate cost of such a board would be 1400 to 600. Ins. Anderson requested
that a representative of the company chosen should come out to the pool and
determine the size of board needed for the size of the pool.
41, The manager was requested to have the cash register tapes used for pool ad-
missions initialled periodically during the day by himself or one of the
lifeguards.
The Commission decided to do away with the use of membership cards for the
pool in view of the fact that the cards served little purpose and that there
were no useable cards from last year. The Commission decided to have the
District Secretary issue a number to the memberships starting with ;1.
axine Menzies will make up mimeographed forms to be used and will also advise
the District Secretary of this procedure. The District Secretary will also
supply the pool manager with an up-to-date list of the memberships.
Regarding the handling of the Swim Pool Account, the manager will make direct
deposits to the bank to the Swim Pool Account. The Sank deposit receipts
will be given to the District Secretary for her file.
The pool manager was requested by the Commission to make a financial report
on the Swim School proceeds at the end of the school session. ex. Anderson
advised that he would like to have smaller classes and therefore conduct
more classes. He also suggested trying an Adult Class.
The commission agreed to leave the closing time of the pool to the discretinn
of the pool manager. i°x'. Anderson showed the Commission the chart he had
kept last year illustrating the time of day, the temperature of the weather,
and the number of people in the pool.

The Commis-ion asked the pool manager to keep an appointment sheet for pool
410 rentals and to handle all arrangements for rentals.
The pool manager was advised that he was responsible for all maintenance
in the pool area.
The manager's concern with the pool concessions was not discussed because
the Commission has not acted on them as yet.
The safety rules of the pool were next discussed and the following was decided:
Sall playing. in the pool area will behandled at the manager's discretion.
Signs for safety rules to be followed in the pool area are to be made and
posted by the manager. The manager was requested to give strict enforcement
to the keeping of small children out of the big pool and visa versa.
The manager was reouestedto enforce a 10 minute of every hour adult swim.
.izabeth Cochran was appointeri to be the Commissioner to work with the manager
on any problems, etc.
The pool manager requested bike racks to be used in front of the pool. Norman
Francisco will handle this request which was previously being worked on by
the Commission.
The Swim Pool fidget for the 1061 season was presented by Elizabeth Cochran
and Ir. Anderson. The budget met with the approval of the Commission.
• Mr. Anderson asi-ed to have a doctor notified for the pool's use. It's.
iz-enzies will contact Dr. Sesums or Doctor Roberts. Mr. Anderson asked to
have the Cotati Fire Department notified of the pool opening. The Recreation
Secretary was instructed to write a letter to that affect.
Mr. Anderson requested the Commission to write letters to Lipton's Store and
Lombardi 's .arket establishing Swim Pool Charge Accounts, for incidentals.
The Recreation Secretary was instructed to do so. The manager will personally
din for all purchases.
The purchase of a rubber link mat for 10 to be used under the Concession
window was discussed with themanager. Mr. AndereJ n felt that such a mat would
not help the standing water situation. Mr. Anderson suggested he could talk
the matter over with Mr. Wiggins and they could decide upon the purchase.
The Commission so agreed.
Discussion of the opening day for the Swim Pool was held. This activity
is being handled by iaxine Menzies anr. Elizabeth Cochran. The co-chairmen
have tentatively planned ray 27th as the first day of pool operation which
will be membership and general admission swimming. May 28th will be the opening
program to consist of entertainment, refreshments, and free swimming.
Mr. Anderson referred the Commission to Maier <`w Fry and Lou Little for play-
ground equipment. The Recreation secretary was instructed to write to these
• businesses for free catalogs on playground efluipment.

Mr. Anderson also advised that public announcement will soon be made regarding
a propram by Candlestick Park for free baseball games for children. They
will be for boys 9-1h years old, held on a Tuesday or Thursday, the date at
the discretion of the ball park. Mr. Anderson suggested that the Commission
sponsor such a trip. The Conr isnion was receptive to the idea.
The next meeting was announced to be held at the District Gffice on Flay 15,
1961. The meeting was then adjourned.
