1961/06/05 Other Minutes ROHNERT PARK RECREAT ION COMMISSION Minutes for June 5th, 1961, Meeting On June 5th, 1961, at 7 :30 p.m., the Rohnert Park Recreation Commission met at the home of Mrs. Wore Thiesfeld for their regular bi-monthly meeting. Commissioners in attendance were: ax:ine :ienzies, Norman Francisco, Eliz- abeth Cochran and Nancy Thiesfeld. Also, in attendance were Irir. Boyd Bice and Mr. Jim Harrigan. The meeting was opened. with the reading of the minutes of the last meeting and. were approved as read. A resume of the May 16th, 1961, District Meeting pertaining to recreation were read. Incoming and Outgoing Correspondence was read. The Treasurer's Report was given by Maxine Menzies. Outstanding bills were presented and discussion of same was held. `Lhe following bill was approved by the Commission for presentation to the District Board for payment: Lions Club of Cotati, California $2.50 (Use of P.A. System for Swim Pool Opening Day Program) This bill should be paid by the Swim Pool Account. The following bill to be paid by the College View Boys' Club was presented: 1.71 for coffee sold by Maxine Menzies to John Downey of the College View Boys' Club. The Recreation Secretary was instructed to send this bill to the College View ?3oyw' Club. The following outstanding bills were discussed: 1. "'38.00 for fencing for the Little League. (This money was donated by the Recreation Commission. Mr. Hal Shreve will present a copy of this bill for Payment at the next Recreation Commission meeting. ) 2. 1.172.25 for painting the Swim Pool fence inside and outside and painting the Swim Pool Concession Stand inside and outside by the Campbell Paint Company. (A formal copy of this bill was not presented as ye and will be forthcoming. ) 3. .351.00 for 12 foot Flex-King Aluminum Diving Board. ( Discussion indicated that length of board was too short for safety factor. Payment of this bill will be held uo until proper board is installed. ) Under Cld Business: ss: • Swim Pool Concessions were discussed. Mrs. Cochran advised that swim ecuipment world be handled by the Concessionaire, details of which would be worked out by the pool manager. Norman Francisco advised that the streetside window for the concession stand had been completed. Mrs. Cochran advised that the Concessionaire was now in operation. The Recreation Secretary was instructed to write a thank you note to it. Bill Wiggins, 1:/ strict Maintenance man for his work on the Swim Pool. I. Page 2 (Minutes of June 5, 1°61) The 1961-62 Recreation Commission Budget was next discussed. Mrs. Thiesfeld advised that it was not possible to complete a budget until the Commission formed a policy stating the park would be developed in stages or all at one time by a long term contract. The Commission decided to hold the policy decision over until the next meeting to allow for further investi- gation on the area by area development. The Recreation Sepretary was in- structed to write the University of California at Davis and San Francisco City College, regarding a free landscape plan of the park as the Commission advise that the State of California would not perform this service. Fill for "A" Neighborhood Park Site was next discussed. Mr. Boyd Bice was appointed to contact Mr. Charles Marshall, Engineer, for a grade pro- jection. Swim Pool Opening Day Report was given by Mrs. Menzies and Mrs. Cochran. They stated they felt the program went well and was enjoyed by all. The Swim Pool Pant Project was reported on by Mrs. Menzies. She stated that 2 bids were obtained; one from Morris & Son for $595.00 for painting inside of fence, outside of fence and outside of building and one from Campbell Paint Company in amount of .JL72.25 to include painting inside and outside of fence, inside and outside of building. (The painting of the i.ns,de of the building was re-,uested by the Distr' ct iaintenance man, Er. Bill Wiggins for health department reasons. ) The pool was painted by Campbell Paint Company. a ke Racks for the Pool area were next discussed. Mrs. Thiesfeld reported that Mr. Ray Miller, Superintendent of Cotati School District advised he had bike racks made by Mr. Olson of Cotati, consisting of 60 feet of pipe racks in 10 foot sections for ''300.00. Mrs. Cochran suggested having the local 20-30 Club make some racks and the Commission pay them. The Commission approved same and Mrs. Cochran will handle the matter. Used Playground Eouipment was next discussed. Mrs. Thiesfeld reported that Mr, Ray Miller knew of no available used equipment but suggested con- tacting Mr. Walt Eagan, Sonoma County. Mrs. Cochran will contact Mr. Eagan and report. Mrs. Thiesfeld advised that Mr. Miller stated Mr. Olson of Cotati, made much of the school's ecuipment which was very good and reasonably priced. Mrs. Thiesfeld was instructed to contact Mr. Olson and report on his prices for various pieces of eruipment. Narrowing of the Swim Pool Entrance was reported completed by Norman Francisco. Report on the Community Building for "A" Neighborhood Park Site was held over for the next meeting and will be given by Walt orris. Purchase of Swim Pool Diving Board was reported on by Mrs. Cochran. A 12 ft. aluminum board was purchased from Rapp Construction for 351.00 however, this board has been found unsafe in relation to length. x longer board will be obtained before payment and will be handled by Mrs. Cochran and Mr. Francisco. Pace 3 (Minutes of June 5, 1961) Project of cutting weeds in front of the pool area was reported on by • Mrs. Thiesfeld. She stated the weeds were cut by the Little League and Teenage Club free of charge. Under New Business: _. Recreation activities were discussed. Ifrs. Thiesfeld suggested that one recreation activity per month be coordinated by the Commission. Same was approved. Several suggestions for activities were made. Mrs. Thiesfeld was instructed to form a citizens committee to work on Recreation Activities for each month. Name the Park Contest was next discussed. There were 23 entrys as a result of the contest held at the Swim Pool Opening Day. The winning name chosen was Alicia Park, in honor of the developers who donated the "A" Neighborhood Park Site, and was entered by Sherri, Terri, and Gerri =enzies. Since Mrs. Menzies was a member of the Recreation Commission at the time of the contest she designated the prize, a family pool membership, to be given to the August 'lmed family. The secretary was instructed to write a letter to the ' family enclosing the prize. CO. Discussion of Replacement of Commissioner vacancy was next held. At this time, Mrs. Menzies advised she was resigning from the Commission due to additional duties she has had to take on at this time. The Commission regretfully accepted her resignation. II The Commission approved N . Boyd dice and Mr. Jim Harrigan to fill the vacancies. The Recreation Secretary was instructed to send a letter of recommendation to the Rohnert Park Community Services District Board of Directors for their appointment of these gentlement to the vacancies. The Commission then held election of officers due to the vacancies created by resignations. The results of this election were as follows: Boyd Bice Chairman Nancy Thiesfeld Secretary & Publicity Elizabeth Cochran 'ereasurer I•n. 3ice received a 2 year term of service on the Commission and ir. Harrigan received a 3 year term of service on the Commission. The Recreation Secretary was instructed to write the Press Democrat in Santa Rosa, California, c/o MI'. Keith Allan and ask for the Recreation Commission news to be put in the EMpire Section of the paper at any time other than Sunday.
