Minutes for June 19th, 1961, Meeting:
On June 19th, 1961, at 7:30 p.m., the Rohnert Park Recreation Commission
met at 6950 Commerce Boulevard, Cotati, California, for their regular
bi-monthly public meeting. Commissioners present were: Boyd Bice,
Jim Harrigan, Nancy Thiesfeld, and Norman Francisco. Also, in attendance
were Peter Callanan and. Jim Rogers.
The meeting was opened with the reading of the minutes of the last meeting
and were approved as read. A resume of the June 6th, 1961, District
Meeting pertaining to Recreation was read for the information of the
Commission. Outgoing and Incoming Correspondence was read. A Treasurer's
Report was not given due to Mrs. Cochran being on vacation. outstanding
bills were presented. Mrs. Thiesfeld advised that the ,2.50 bill to the
Cotati Lions Club had been paid by the District and that known outstanding
bills were: the painting of the swim pool area and the diving board. These
bills had not as yet been submitted by these companies. Also, firs. Thiesfeld
advised that the College View Boys Club still owes the Recreation Commission
"'1h.71 for coffee. The College View BOYS Club will present a bill for
38.00 for fencing in the future.
Under Old Business:
Bike Racks for Alicia Park were discussed. Mr. Jim Rogers, representing
the Active 20-30 Club, presented a rough sketch of their plan, drawn by
4110 Dill hicklund, for constructing the racks. The plan called for 16 bike
spaces in each 10 foot rack section. The club requested 5;15.00 for their
labor on each 10 foot section. The Commission decided on such sections;
2 at the pool area and 2 at the ball diamond area, which would provide
32 bike spaces at each area. Total labor to the Club would be ;�60.00
for the racks. The Club requested that the Commission provide all
materials needed in construction such as wood, nails, bolts, and paint.
Norman Francisco moved that a member of the club secure an estimate of all
materials needed in construction and present it to the Commission for their app-
roval. Motion was seconded by Jim Harrigan. Discussion of wood verses pipe
bike racks was held. The majority of the Commission felt that would would be the
most economical at this time -end that the money earned by the Active 20-30
Club for making them would be used to benefit the community.
Mr. Bice proposed that the Commission choose a "park color" which would be
used consistantly in the future. The Commission will act upon this proposal
at their next meetinr'.
The Swim Pool Report could not be given due to i.rs. Cochran being on vaca-
tion, however, Lorman Francisco advised that a 14 foot diving board was
installed at additional cost, replacing, the inadequate 12 foot board.
Mrs. Thiesfeld advised that she had delivered the contract to the Concessionaire,
Mr. Robinson, for his signature. She also advised that ihr. Rcb i nson did
not sign the contract because he felt he would have difficulty complying
with the ,200.00 a month rent phase of the contract. i.r. Boyd Bice stated
She would contact M'. Robinson in an attempt to iron out the matter. I.'.
Cellanan advised that the pool manager reeuested a lawn mower be purchased by the
Commission for use in the pool area. hr. Jim rarrigan moved that the Commission
request the Community Services District to approve the CormmissionIs purchase
of a mower by Bill Wiegins, District Maintainance Lan and the the Commission
recommended a reel power mower in view of safety factors. Notion was

Used Playground euipment Report by Irs. Cochran was held over until next
meeting.
Recreation Activities Report was given by Irs. Thiesfeld. She stated that
only one response was made to the newspaper reouest for a Citizen's Committee
and that was by flrs. Lucille Jewel who stated she would be interested in
handling dramatics for the children. Hrs. Thiesfeld was instructed to make
another reouest for volunteers through the Rohnert Park Press.
Recreation Commission news in the Press Democrat was discussed. Mrs. Thiesfcld
was instructed to answer the letter from the Press Democrat and advise them
that the Commission understood their position but would like to have Santa
Rosa advisedof the Recreation activities in Rohnert Park.
Discussion of Grade Projection of Alicia Park and the 1961-62 Recreation
Commission Bridget were discussed together due to their close relationship.
.rs. Thiesfeld advised that before the budget could be compiled, the
Commission had to set the policy for development of the park. The two
methods for developing the park which are total development or area by area
development were discussed.. The Commission decided upon area by area
development. Imo. Dice presented a plan for development of approximately
• 1/3 of the park consisting of the Arlen Drive entrance, the pool area, and
tiny tots play area. The Commission approved this plan and will recommend
thisplan to the Coremznity Services District for their approval. Based upon
the above dtcision the following budget for 1961-62 was completed:

Discuss on of Alicia Park Community 3uilding was next held. ,r. eorris was
not in attendance to give his report. The Commission held this matter over
for their next meeting. Some Discussion was held on the construction of the
building and theComnission decided to give Pull attention to the building
upon completion of the bids for the 1st development project of the park area.
Under New Business:
The (ommission changed the dates of their meetings to the 2nd and 4th Mondays
of the month. Mr. Francisco advised that the District was changing their meetings
to the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. The Commission also decided to hold
all meetings at 6950 Commerce Boulevard, Cotati, California in the District
Meetinrr Room in view of the additional facilities being provided by the District.
