On July 10, 1961, at 7:30 p.m., the Rohnert Park Recreation Commission
m?t at 6950 Commerce boulevard, cotati , California, for their regular
bi-monthly public meeting. Commissioners present were: boyd dice,
Jim Harrigan, Norman Francisco, Nancy 'Thi.esfeld, and Elizabeth Cochran.
Also in attendance were Peter Callanan of the Hohnert Park Community
Services District Board of Directors and Jack Robinson, Alicia Park
Swim Pool Concessionaire.
The minutes of the June 19th, 1061, Recreation Commission meeting were
read and approved. The minutes of the June 26th, 1961, 1:ecreation Commission
meeting were read and approved. Outgoing Correspondence and Incoming
Correspondence was read and approved. 2 Outstanding Hills were pre-
sented against the Alicia Park Swim Pool. The bill from Lipton's
raised some question in that the bill was not signed by the pool manager.
The secretary was instructed to write a letter to Lipton's requesting
that all swimming pool bills be signed by the pool manager. The bill
will be presented to the manager for his approval and signature. A
resume of the District. Meeting pertaining to Recreation was given by
Norman Francisco. He stated that a letter was being sent to the Press
Democrat requesting that Santa Rosa receive the news of Rohnert Park
and that this edition of the paper he sent to Rohnert Park. Also,
Mi. Francisco stated that the District felt the Commission should take
a more aggressive attitude in handling recreation matters and thus save
the time of the District.
411 Under Old Business:
Discussion of the Swim Pool Concessions was held with :.r. Robinson.
The Commission re^uested that Mr. Robinson sign the contract for the
concessions. Mr. Robinson stated that he would be unable to handle
the $200/month portion of the contract. The Commission stated a new
offer of 5% of the gross sales, exclusive of sales tax or }120.00 per
month rental; whichever of the two were greatest for the month. Mr.
Robinson advised that he was willing to do this but had to get his
partner 's agreement and would let the Commission know of the decision
the next day. Mr. Robinson stated he would rive the Commission 10%
of sales to this date. The Commission requested that Nr. Robinson give
a bigger promotion to sales through advertisement. ::orman Francisco
stated he would provide a refrigerator (free) for the concession stand.
The Swim Pool Report was given by rigs. Cochran. She stated that the
manager requested additional bars for the use of the public in storing
their personal items while swiming. The Commission requested .a's.
Cochran to advise the manager to look;nto the cost and report his
findings. Discipline at the Pool was discussed and the secretary was
asked to write a letter to the pool manager requesting that he strictly
enforce the rules of the pool and that the Commission would stand
behind his enforcements.

Bike Racks were discussed and itr. Boyd Bice will contact Mr. Jim Rogers
of the Active 20-30 Club to determine the progress made on the cost
estimates.
The 1961-62 Recreation Budget was next discussed. Mrs. Cochran and
Mrs. Thiesfeld were assigned to make a further breakdown of the Pre-
liminary Budget. A motion was made by Norman Francisco to add 42,500.00
to the Preliminary Budget for general improvements of the recreation
facilities, namely the swim pool. The motion was seconded by Mrs. Thiesfeld.
Mr. Bice gave a report on the development of the 1st 1/3 of Alicia Park.
He stated that he would have estimates to present at the next meeting.
Recreation Activities was next reported on by Mrs. Thiesfeld. She
stated that little response had been made to the newspaper requests
for volunteer workers. She reported that Miss Betty Sibilia stated
she would be interested. Mrs. Cochran provided a list of active women
in Rohnert Park and Mrs. Thiesfeld will personally contact these people.
Report on the Community gilding was held over til next meeting.
A complaint on the debris left by the Little League Refreshment Stand
was discussed. Jim harrigan will contact John Downie regarding this
matter and renort on same at the Commission's next meeting. Mr. harrigan
will also ask Mr. Downie of the dates of the Teenage Club's meetings
as the Commission was requested to attend one of these meetings.
Boyd dice reported on his attendance at the Dedication Ceremonies of
the Cotati War Memorial Building and stated the event was very enjoyable
and impressive.
Discussion of a "park color" was held and the commission will attempt
to choose a park color at their next meeting.
Under New Business;
A motion was made by Norman Francisco to set a policy for all members
of the Rohnert Park Community Services District Board, it's employees,
and the Rohnert Park Recreation Commission to have free family member-
ships to the Alicia Park Swim Fool. The motion was seconded by irs.
Cochran.
The resipnat.ion of :4alt Morris from the Recreation Commission was
orally presented by .'s. Cochran. The Commission regretfully accepted
Mr. Morris' resignation. The name of Mr. Dan Logue was presented to
fill the vacancy left by . r. ::orris. Mrs. Cochran will contact r.
Logue and invite him to the next Commission meeting.
