ilk Minutes for August 1I , 1961, Meeting:
On August 14, 1961, at 8:00 p.m., the Rohnert Park Recreation Commission met
at 6950 Commerce Boulevard, Cotati, California, for their regular bi-monthly
public meeting. Commissioners present were Boyd F. Bice, Norman Francisco,
Jim Harrigan, Elizabeth Cochran, and Nancy Thiesfeld.
The minutes of the July 2}., 1961, Recreation Commission meeting were read
and approved. Outgoing correspondence was read. Incoming correspondence
was read and consisted of letter from Mr. Frank Cooper and San Jose Steel
Company.
A resume of the August 7, 1961, Community Services District Meeting pertaining
to Recreation, was given by Mrs. Thiesfeld.
No outstanding bills were presented for payment.
Treasurer 's Report was given by Mrs. Cochran.
Under Old Business:
The Hike Rack Report was given by Mr. Bice. He stated that the Rohnert Park
Active 20-30 Club had completed 2 racks to date. Mr. Bice advised the cost
of the racks would be "t225.00 and should be completed the weekend of August
411 19th & 20th.
The 1961-62 Recreation Commission Budget was reported on by MIrs. Thiesfeld.
She stated that the Rohnert Park Community Services District would be adopting
their final budget in the near future and that the District would contact the
Recreation Commission to work with the District on the Recreation Budget.
Recreation Activities were reported on by Mrs. Thiesfeld. She advised that
she had made an investigation on a Teenage Recreation Project and found that
the Active 20-30 Club and Women's Club were already providing activities for
this age group. The Commission felt that this age group was being served
sufficiently and that another age group should be covered by a recreational
project. Mrs. Thiesfeld was requested to write the 20-30 Club and Women's
Club to commend them for their provisions of recreation for the teenage group.
Further planning of Recreational Activities will be held over until after school
starts, at which time the Commission will reeuest from the schools, a list of
children by age, in Rohnert Park. This information will assist in planning
future recreational activities. Mr. Francisco stated that a smoother handling
of Recreation by the Commission could be created if all persons in the community
interested in any phase of Recreation and Park Development would contact the
Rohnert Park Recreation Commission.
Report on the Alicia Park Pool was given by Mrs. Cochran. She stated the
pool manager requested a Swim Meet for the advanced swimmers in his classes.
Mrs. Cochran stated the pool manager also requested a Free Swim Time on
Saturdays, from 10:00 to 12:00 a.m. during the month of September; dates of
this activity to be at the discretion of the pool manager. The above requests
by the pool manager were put in form of a motion by Mrs. Thiesfeld and seconded
by Mr. Harrigan. Motion was carried. Mrs. Cochran advised that 40 new swim
pool bags were purchased. Cost of these bags were :99.814.

Discussion of Alicia Swim Pool Concessions was held. The Commission approved
sale of concessions at prices established at the beginning of this year's
season. Mrs. Cochran asked that research on the management of concessions be
held in the near future. Mrs. Cochran was appointed to conduct this research.
The Secretary was requested to write a registered letter to the previous pool
concessionaire requesting his attendance at the next Recreation Commission
meeting and requesting his breakdown of the total gross proceeds for the months
of June and July.
Development of the 1st 1/3 of Alicia Park was next discussed.
The matter of chain link fencing in the pool area was held over till the next
meeting.
The Commission discussed the Ortega bid, low bid, in amount of W,01t6.00 for
recommendation to the Rohnert Park Community Services District. The bid
included:
Paving & Bumper strips $4,025.00
Relaying Sewer & Drain Line 500.00
Cement Work 521.00

The Bid did not include sprinkling system, landscaping or sidewalk near the
street. The majority of the Commission was in favor of holding discussion of
the sprinkling system, landscaping and sidewalk at a future date. Mrs. Cochran
moved the Ortega Bid be approved by the Commission for recommendation to the
District. Motion seconded by Mr. Harrigan. Motion was carried.
Discussion of the Alicia Park Community was lid by Mrs. Cochran. She advised
that the Rohnert Park Community Services District had been requested to have
their attorney determine thepossibilities of a loan for construction. :"ass.
Cochran advised that the following information would have to be given the
bank at the time a loan was to be requested:
1. Amount of Loan.
2. Plans for Building.
3. Term of Loan.
4. Method of Replacement of hinds.
5. Copy of Director's Minutes Authorizing Building.
6. Amount of Interest Rate.
Replacement of a Commissioner was next discussed. Each of the present Commissioners
was asked to recruit any persons interested in filling in the vacant position
on the Recreation Commission.
Mr. Harrigan reported that he discussed the debris around the Little League

Mrs. Thiesfeld advised that no reply had come from the College View Boys Club
regarding the Recreation Commission's letter pertaining to the vandalism sus-
tained by the Little League dugouts.
Under New Business:
The Commission received bills and money from iirs. William Menzies, concluding
the project of a coffee booth at the Alicia Park Swim Pool Opening Day Program.
A letter from Mr. Frank Cooper was received by the Commission in which Mr.
Cooper made inquiry about establishing a year round kiddie carnival. The
Secretary was instructed to answer the letter.
Discussion of payment of bills incurred by Recreation was discussed. The
Secretary was instructed to contact the District Secretary and request that
all bills be presented to the Commission for approval before they were pre-
sented to the District for payment.
Mrs. Thiesfeld advised that she had contacted Mr. Kim 0. Roberts pertaining
to possibilities of county, state or federal aid for development of Park and
Recreational facilities by the Commission.
The meeting adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
