Minutes for September 25, 1961, Meeting:
On September 25, 1961, at 8 :00 p.m., the Rohnert Park Recreation
Commission met at 6950 Commerce Boulevard, Cotati, California,
for their regular bi-monthly public meeting. Commissioners
present were: Mr. Boyd Bice, Mr. Norman Francisco, Mr. Jim
Harrigan, Mts. Nore Thiesfeld, and Mrs. Richard Cochran.
The minutesof September llth, 1961, were read and approved.
Outgoing correspondence was read and consisted of:
1. Letters to parents of children involved in theft and vandalism
at Rohnert Park Swim Pool.
2. Letter to California State Division of Highways pertaining
to landscaping of Gravenstein Interchange.
Incoming correspondence was read and consisted of:
1. Letter from Sonoma State College advising of their pleasure
to be in the area and offering their professional cooperation.
2. Returned letter from Commission to Frank Cooper.
3. Letter from Jack Anderson pertaining to theft and vandalism.
Outstanding bills were presented and approved.
Resume of last District meeting pertaining to recreation was
given by Norman Francisco who stated the District requested
the Commission to handle the theft and vandalism at the Alicia
Park Swimming Pool.
Treasurers report was given by Mts. Cochran.
Under Cld Business :
Tiny Tots Area discussion was held over since representatives
of the Rohnert Park Women's Association were not present at
the meeting.
Replacement of a Commissioner was held over til the next meeting.
Swim Pool Report was given by pool manager, Jack Anderson.
Mt. Anderson reported the following:
1. The Swim Pool would dose Sunday, October 1, 1961.
2. Outstanding check from the Pool Concessionaire would be
received by October 1, 1961.
3. Swim Pool Report for 1960-61 Season would be completed by
November or December 1961, and would include financial statement
and managers recommendations for future operation.
Mrs. Thiesfeld requested that each member of the Commission
• receive a copy of the 1960-61 Swim Pool Report. Discussion
of the manager's September monthly salary resulted in the Commission's
recommendation to the District that the manager be paid a full
month's salary for September.
The recent theft and vandalism at the Swim Pool was discussed.

Parents of the children involved in the incident were present
at the meeting. These people were advised of the extent of
damage and cost of repairs. Mr. :trice, chairman, delivered the
reprimand. Mr. harrigan requested that the children meet at
Alicia Park on the morning of September 30th, and perform light
maintenance duties in the park area under the supervision of
Mr. Harric-an and hrs. Cochran. Mr. Anderson requested the
children attempt to pay for the stolen concession items. Ers.
Thiesfeld advised that the Commission's function was not that
of a law enforcement agency and that any future incidents would
be turned over to the County Sheriff's Department and Juvenile
Hall.
The Secretary was requested to compose an article for the news-
paper pertaining to the recent theft and vandalism problem.
Bike Racks were reported on by Mrs. Cochran, who advised that
the Active 20-30 Club had completed same. The bike racks will
be stored in the pool area for next year's use. Bill for 20-30
Club labor will be forth coming. HZrs. Cochran advised she will
arrange for a newspaper picture of the racks and responsible
20-30 Club members.
• Chain Link fencing for the pool area was reported by Mrs. Thiesfeld,
who advised she was attempting to contact Nr. Norman Spivak,
who will donate the money for the fence. The amount of the
fencing will be *315 based on the San Jose Steel Co. bid.
Developmentof the first 1/$ of Alicia Park was discussed. ^s.
Thiesfeld advised that she was concerned over the lack of sidewalk
across the front of the parking lot at the curb line. She advised
that she brought this to the attention of Mr. Carpenter, District
Engineer, via a telephone conversation on September 24, 1961.
She advised that Kr. Carpenter stated he would see that the
bumper strips were placed back 57, feet from the curb line.
Mr. trice advised of other problems in the development of the
parking area and stated he would present all these problems
to the District at their next meeting. Mr. Bice made a motion
that the Commission recommend to the District immediate pay:le nt
of „`150 .00 to Mr. Ortega for his work, the balance to be paid
60 days after completion of the job. notion was seconded by
Mrs. Cochran. A majority ruled and the Secretary was instructed
to notify the District of the recommendation.
Under New Business;
Nis. Thiesfeld suggested the Rohnert Park Swim Pool be called
Alicia Park Swim Pool in order to avoid confusion in the future.
Mr. Dice put this in form of a motion, Nrs. Thiesfeld seconded,
• and motion was carried.
The Agenda was discussed by Mrs. Thiesfeld, who requested same
be more closely followed.

A Rohnert Park ►°lelcome to Sonoma State College was discussed.
The Secretary was requested to contact the various organizations
in Rohnert Park and determine if they would be interested in
attempting the project.
The Secretary was instructed to correspond with Alicia Homes,
Inc., regarding their intentions of providing a park site in
"Dn Neighborhood.
A tenative plan for the Alicia Park Community Building was
presented by Mr. Nore F. Thiesfeld. Norman Francisco moved
that the tentative plan be presented to the District for their
approval. The Secretary was instructed to correspond with the
District and the District Maintenance Fian regarding their
space requirements in the building. 'Option was 2nded by Mr.
Harrigan and carried.
Meeting was adjourned at 11:15 p.m.
