1970/05/21 City Council MinutesROHNERT PARK CITY COUNCIL MINUTES May 21, 1970 Discussion was then held on the proposed redevelopment of Burton Avenue playlot. Present and participating in the discussion with the Council were RecreationCommissioner Nore Thiesfeld, Professor Steven Dubov, Mr. & Mrs. Victory who live next door to the playlot, Mr. & Mrs. Barry Godolphin who also live on Burton Avenue in the vicinity of the playlot, and Mrs. Clay Jewell, reporter for the Petaluma Argus Courier. Upon motion by Councilman Rogers, seconded by Councilman Roberts and unanimously approved, the Council approved the project proposed by Professor Dubov and authorized the expenditure of up to $ 500.00, the sum is to represent a contingency to cover the cost of items Mr. Dubov and his class could not get donated for the project. Pool Memberships Upon motion by Councilman Hopkins, seconded by Councilman Rogers and unanimously approved, the Council authorized the extension to June 15, 1970 of the time by which indivi- duals can purchase 1970 swimming pool memberships at the discount price. The Council of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in special session commencing at 8:00 p.m. in the City Offices,, 435 Southwest Boulevard, Rohnert Park with Mayor Smith presiding. Call to Order Mayor Smith called the meeting of the Special Session to order at approximately 8:00 p.m. Roll Call Presents (3) Councilmen Roberts, Rogers and Smith Late: (1) Councilman Hopkins (Time of arrival is noted in the minutes) Absent: (1) Councilman Buchanan Staff Present: City Manager Callinan, Superintendent of Public Works Wiggins Burton Avenue Playlot City Manager Callinan explained the proposal of Professor Steven Dubov, Sonoma State College art professor, who with his class would like to redevelop the Burton Avenue playlot in accordance with a model and plan submitted. Mr. Callinan advised that notice of this meeting had been given to residents of Burton Avenue in the vicinity of the play- lot. He further advised that the Recreation Commission, at a special meeting on May 19th, had endorsed the proposed redevelopment project for the playlot and recommended an appropriation of up to $500.00 to cover miscellaneous ex- penses that the college class and students would not cover. Page ®2v May 219 1970 Saturday Holidays A discussion was held concerning possible change in the City's policy to permit employees a holiday for those holidays that now fall on Saturdays such as May 304 197.0 and July 49 19709 both of which fall on Saturdays. Upon motion by Councilman Rogers, seconded by Councilman Hopkins and approved by the following voice vote, the Council established a policy that when authorized holidays fall on Saturdays, that the City policy will be to celebrate them on the preceding Friday and employees will be given the Friday as a holidays AYES: (3) Councilmen Hopkins, Rogers and Smith NOES., (1) Co-L nc± lmaan Roberts ABSENT-.0) Councilman Buchanan Problem with City Manager Callinan reported that on the June 1st agenda Pigeons would be a matter of the keeping of pigeons in the City, with staff recommendations that it should not be allowed. Water Rates City Manager Callinan reported that he had prepared a resolution which would give churches a flat rate.for water service and that the resolution had'been sent to Mr. Maxwell for review and comment and would be on the June 1st agenda.
