The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert
Park met this date in regular session commencing at 3:00 p.m. in
the City Offices, 6750 Commerce Boulevard, Rohnert Park, with
Chairman. Taylor presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Taylor called the regular session to order at
approximately.3:00 p.m. and led the pledge of allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (4) Commissioners Ferra, McCormick, Stevens and Taylor
Excused: (1) Commissioner Lyons
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Council liason
Cavalli and Administrative Assistant Jones.
Approval of Minutes Upon notion of Commissioner McCormick, seconded by Commissioner
Stevens, and unanimously approved, the minutes of July 28, 1983
were approved as submitted.
Pets in Mobile Home Chairman Taylor reported that a letter had been sent to the
Parks Rohnert Parh Mobile come Advisory Commission, as directed at the
last Commission meeting, concerning pet regulations in mobile
home parks. Chairman Taylor stated that he had called the
Secretary of the Mobile Home Advisory Commission concerning the
matter and that Mrs. Hammond had turned the matter over to
411 Councilman nary Stewart. He then contacted Nary Stewart at
which time she indicated that she had spoken to the managers of
the parks and that they had stated that they would not change
the existing rules.
Discussion followed upon which Administrative Assistant Jones
indicated that he would check with City staff on this issue.
Voter Registration Robert Lloyd, 7300 Adrian Drive was recognized and stated that
he was a Deputy Registrar of Voters and urged everyone,
especially seniors, to register to vote.
Mobile Rome Advisory Ann Kennedy, 30 Ualnut Circle, was recognized and inquired why
Commission the Rohnert Park Mobile Home Advisory Commission had disbanded.
Council liason Cavalli responded that the Commission had
disbanded due to inactivity and general lack of interest.
Commission Vacancy Administrative Assistant Jones noted that Commissioner McCormick
had submitted his resignation from the Commission due to his
moving to Santa Rosa and thus there will be a vacancy after this
meeting. Mr. Jones reported that the Council had decided to
review all Senior Advisory Commission applications currently on
file in an effort to fill the upcoming vacancy.
leclif. Green Thumb Administrative Assistant Jones stated that a representative from
ogram the California Green Thumb Program had been scheduled to make a

presentation before the Commission but that the representative
was not present. Ur. Jones explained briefly that the Program 0
sponsored and placed individuals in jobs throughout the State.
Mr. Jones pointed out that the City currently had two such
individuals working 20 hours per week, one working in the
Finance Department and one doing groundskeeping at the Community
Center. lie noted that the Green Thumb Program was funded by the
California Farmers Association.
Kerry Blume, Petaluma People Services Center Program Director
was recognized and further explained that the program was for
individuals over the age of 55 and in the low income category.
Hiss Blume stated that the workers are paid minimum wage with a
maximum of twenty hours per week. She noted that the Petaluma
People Services Center presently has one of the individuals
sponsored by the California Green Thumb Program.
The Commission directed Administrative Assistant Jones to again
contact the representative of the California Green Thumb Program
to make a presentation before the Commission.
Senior Citizen Drop- Commissioner Stevens reported on the attendance for the Senior
In Center Attendance Citizen Drop-In Center for the month of July, 1983.
Commissioner Stevens submitted a copy of the attendance report
(a copy of which is attached to the original set of these
minutes).

Commissioner Stevens reported that on July 16, 1903 the 10,000th
person visited the Drop-In Center.
Chairman Taylor inquired what the policy was when a senior
visiting the Drop-In Center Naas stranded without a ride home at
closing time.
Commissioner Stevens indicated that she was not aware of any
written policy but the hostesses or hosts always made sure that
the senior got home safely some how or another. She stated that
she would check into formulating a policy concerning the matter.
Ambulance Task Force Administrative Assistant Jones reported that he had contacted
County Supervisors Esposti and Carpenter concerning the
ambulance task force. ir. Jones related that according to the
County Supervisors the ambulance task force has never been
formed. ile indicated that he would continue to mcnitor the
issue.
Commissioner Ferra made a motion, seconded by Commissioner
Stevens, and unanimously approved, to direct a letter to the
Rohnert Park City Council urging their support of a ambulance
task force within the County.

edical Costs Chairman Taylor initiated discussion concerning the high costs
for medical care for seniors.
Administrative Assistant Jones. Suggested that the Commission
possibly set up a mini-conference pith the Council on Aging
concerning medical coverage for seniors.
Senior Community Administrative Assistant Jones again reminded the Commission
Service Employment that the City cooperated with the Senior Community Service
Program Employment Program in placing seniors in jobs throughout the
City. He stated that presently the City has one worker, the
contact for the Senior Sunshine Bus. Mr. Jones pointed out that
additional senior workers could be placed in jobs throughout the
City if the seniors would simply contact SCSEP for details.
Hospice Program Commissioner McCormick noted that there was a new Hospice
Program sponsored-by Miedi.-Care and suggested that the Commission
contact someone to come and make a presentation concerning same.
Edde Lane, Sonoma County Area Agency on Aging representative was
recognized and also urged the Commission have a representative
come and speak concerning the Hospice Program.
It was the concensus of the Commission to direct staff to invite
a representative of the Hospice program to make a presentation
before the Commission.
leeting Attendance Administrative Assistant Jones initiated discussion concerning
working towards better senior/community involvement with the
Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. i•ir. Jones expressed that
he felt special reports and presentations of interest to the
senior community would draw better attendance and participation
at Commission meetings.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner McCormick stated that the Commission should work
with the AARP, Fun After Fifty, Senior Prospective, etc. to
inform seniors of issues to be brought up at Senior Citizen
Advisory Commission meetings.
Farewell to Chairman Taylor noted that Commissioner Peter McCormick was
Commissioner Peter moving to Santa Rosa and thus had submitted his resignation from
McCormick the Commission. Chairman Taylor commended Mr. McCormick for his
outstanding work in the Comunity, i.e. President of A.A.R.P. ,
representative of the Friends of the Library, Chairman and
Commissioner of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission, etc.
Chairman Taylor indicated that the City Council had presented
Mr. McCormick with a plaque of appreciation for his service to
the Community. tie then presented Mr. McCormick. with his name
plate from the Senior Citizens Advisory Comission.

Commissioner rcCornick expressed that he will miss his, -
activities in r.ohnert Park, felt that the Senior Advisory
Commission was doing a fine job of representing the seniors in
the community and also expressed that the city' s staff and
Council was one of the finest to work with in the County.
Chairman Taylor noted that there would. be a farewell reception,
cake and coffee, for Commissioner i:icCormick immediately
following the meeting.
Adjournment There being no further business and no one further desiring to
ha heard the meeting was adjourned at approximately 3:43 p.m. to
September 22, 183.
