April 18, 1985
• The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of
Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing
at 3:00 p.m. at Las Casitas De 'Sonoma Mobile Home Park,
• • 7545 Bridgit Drive, Rohnert Park, 'with Vice-Chairman
Kennedy presiding.
Call to order • Vice-Chairman Kennedy called the regular session to order•
at approximately 3:00 p.m. and led the pledge of allegiance.
Roll Call Present: "(3) Commissioners Dolby, Kennedy and Lyons
Absent: (2) Commissioner Ferra and Chairman Chase

Approval of Minutes Uiotion of Commissioner Dolby, seconded Conaissioner
-Z („Ferra, the minutes of March 21, 1985 were unanimously
•f pproved as submitted.

Senior Day Program Mrs. Kerry Blum, Director of the'Senior Day Program in
Petaluma was recognized and stated that the Senior Day
Program is a special' therapeutic program for frail senior
• citizens which helps 'to keep seniors out of nursing homes
by providing arts and crafts and other daytime activities.
Mrs. Blum also stated that if there was enough interest
in the formation of a day program in Rohnert Park, that

the' Sonoma County area on Aging was willing to provide
• the start-up funds.

Upon motion of Commissioner Kennedy and seconded by
Commissioner Lyons, it was unanimously approved to
bring the'proposed Senior Day Program before the City
•Council for approval.
Senicr Citizens Month Administrative Assistant Fabio informed the Commission that
the City would be providing a cake for the drop-in center
and the dining site and also for the May 23 Advisory
Commission meeting with refreshm'.-its in honor of Senior
Citizens Month.
Grant Application Commissioner Dolby stated that aiLetter of Intent had been
filed requesting funds from a grant to refurbish senior
centers.
Senior Citizen Commissioner Dolby directed a letter be sent to the City
Apartment Complex Council recommending approval of the proposed rezoning of
Codding property located behind Raley's for the purpose of
construction of a senior citizens apartment complex.
Commissioner Dolby stated the Commission support be given
to the project only with the conditions that the complex
be restricted to seniors and that the apartments be affordable
to the average cendnr.

Discussion followed,
Information and
Referral Commissioner Dolby commended Dorothy Johnson for the fine
job she is doing concerning information and referral at the
Burton Avenue Recreation Center.
Discussion followed.
It was the consensus of the Commission that a letter be
sent to the Council on Aging of Sonoma County requesting
that Dorothy Johnson's hours be extended to allow more
people to benefit from the service she provides.
Medicine & Food Vice-Chairman Kennedy read a litter from Senator Jim Nielsen
Items Tax responding to the Commissioner Chase's letter concerning the
proposed tax on medicine and food items. (Copy of said
letter attached to the original set of these minutes)'.
Shopping Carts Vice-Chairman Kennedy read a letter from Planning Director
•r. Paul Skanchy to Raley's Shopping Center, requesting them
to move their shopping carts so as not to interfere with
the pedestrian walkway. (Copy of said letter attached to
k, the original set of these minutes) .
Commission Meeting Commissioner Lyons stated he would like the Senior Advisory
Changes Commission meetings returned to the every other month
schedule for the summer months.
Discussion followed during which Commissioner Dolby stated 110
for the record that she was against any change in the
schedule.
Upon motion of _ .. Commissioner Lyons, seconded Vice-Chair-
man Kennedy, the Commission approved to change its schedule
to every other month from May through ,October. -
Medicare It was noted that the AARP will be conducting a meeting
on May 2 at the Burton Avenue Recreation Center to discuss
changes in Medicare.
Adjournment Upon motion of Commissioner Lyons and seconded;by Vice-
Chairman Kennedy, the Senior Citizens Advisor Commission
Meeting was adjourned at approximately 3:49 p.m. .
