SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
May 19, 1994
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date
in regular session commencing at 1:01 p.m. at Codding Center, 6800 Hunter Drive,
Suite A,Rohnert Park,with Chairman Chase presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 1:01 p.m. and
led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (4) Commissioners Chase,Jennis,Jurgiel,and Lyons
Absent: (1) Commissioner Kennedy
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Supervisor,Mary Hanlon;
Program Specialist,Wendy Audiss; and Senior Scheduler, Vicki Wilkerson;
Councilwoman Spiro; Councilman Eck; Councilwoman Gallagher; and City
Manager,Joseph Netter.
Approval of
Minutes A motion to accept the minutes for the meeting of March 17th as written was made by
Commissioner Jurgiel,seconded by Commissioner Jennis and unanimously approved.
Acknowledging
Posting of
the Agenda Chairman Chase stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as
required by law in three (3)public locations within the time period required.

Appearances Recreation Supervisor Hanlon introduced the dignitaries: City Manager,Joseph
Netter,Councilwoman Gallagher, Councilwoman Spiro and Councilman Eck.
Scheduled Public
Appearances Councilwoman Spiro presented Chairman Chase with a plaque and thanked him for
his ten years of service on the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. John's wife
was ill and so John could not attend the appreciation affair put on by the City. This
would have been presented to him at that time.
Kathy Vander Vennet updated the Commission on her various roles and announced
the move of the C.O.Y.F. offices to the third floor of the new Public Safety building.
The non-profit groups that have used the C.O.Y.F. offices in the Codding Center are
being relocated to Northern Station. She gave examples of how she has provided
assistance and information to groups which are looking to organize.
Discussion was also held regarding a program whereby youths helped seniors with
their yard work,errands, etc. and were screened to alleviate any concerns the seniors

Three Santa Rosa Junior College students from an autobiographical writing class that
is held at the Senior Center read some short stories they had written in honor of Older
Americans Month.

Leaves Commissioner Lyons left the meeting at 1:30 p.m.

Returns Commissioner Lyons returned at 1:35 p.m.
Public Appearances-
a Continued Councilwoman Spiro read and presented the Commission with a Council resolution
honoring Older Americans Month.
Council Update Councilwoman Spiro updated the Commission on the expansion of the Senior Center
and mentioned Rancho Cotate High School's Peer Helping Program. Some of the
students in the program mentioned they would like to have seniors as mentors and
friends.
Jeannie Fagan asked Councilwoman Spiro about the possibility of replacing the wood
entries to the railroad tracks by the Red Lion Hotel as it shifts and creates a bump when
going over. Councilwoman Spiro will bring this up to the Council.

Program
Specialist
Report Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss, updated the Senior Advisory Commission on the
following items: the Police Officers Association brunch on May 21,trip preview on
May 27 at 2 p.m.,concert by Tom Thunderhorse on May 31 at 2 p.m.,the expansion
party on June 2,the Health and Leisure Faire on June 4, Senior Center as a polling
place,Art Show and Sale on June 24& 25,and the barbecue and auction on August 13.
April attendance for department activities was 4,162 and for non-department activities
was 5,330. Revenues were $5,038.55. There were 214 rides on the Sunshine Bus and
123 attending the various excursions.

Matters from
Commissioners Chairman Chase reminded everyone that the names and address of the legislators have
been posted and urged people to write to them regarding health-care reforms and other
issues pertaining to seniors.
Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard,
Commissioner Jennis made a motion for adjournment at 2:10 p.m. which was seconded
by Commissioner Lyons.
