January 21 , 1988
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert
Park met this date in regular session commencing at 3 :00 p.m. at
the Rohnert Park Community Center Meeting Room 1 , 5401 Snyder
Lane, flohnert Park, with Chairman Chase presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session
to order at approximately 3:00 p.m. and
led the pledge of allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (4) Commissioners Jennis,
Lyons, Kennedy and Chairman Chase
Absent : (1 ) Commissioner Dolby
Staff present for all or part of the
meeting: Administrative Assistant
Caroline Fabio and Public Safety Officer
Bill Martin.
Approval of Upon recognition by Chairman Chase,
Minutes Commissioner Kennedy made a motion which
411 was seconded by Commissioner Jennis to
approve the Minutes of November 19, 1987 .
Senior Day Care Chairman Chase read a letter he sent to
the City Council regarding Senior Day
Care Services. He stated that Recreation
Director Jim Pekkain will be meeting with
Maureen Shaw of Catholic Services
regarding senior day care in Rohnert
Park .

Senior Housing Betty F'erra, 433 Ave Avenue, stated that
low cost housing for seniors in Rohnert
Park is a problem.
Annette Lyons, 14 Walnut Circle, added
that she had contacted several
organizations , such as Codding
Enterprises, regarding low cost housing.

Pikes & Skateboards Chairman Chase stated that he wrote a
410 letter to the City Council regarding the
problems with bicyclists and
skateboarders on the sidewalks in the
local shopping centers . He noted that
small signs were put up regarding
skateboards . There were no signs put up
regarding bicycles .

411 Chairman Chase feels that more signs
should be posted in shopping centers; and
that they should include bicycles and be
larger; more evident to the public.

Public Safety Officer Public Safety Officer Bill Martin arrived
Bill Martin Arrives at 3:13 p.m. and took part in the
discussion about bicyclist and
skateboarders in shopping centers .
Betty Ferra, 433 Ava Avenue, feels that
if shopping centers do not rectify the
problem, then they (seniors ) will quit
patronizing certain stores .
City Council Chairman Chase stated that the City
Council should be commended for all the
good things that they do.

Prop-In Center Upon recognition by Chairman Chase,
Commissioner Jennis gave the monthly
410 report on the Senior Drop-In Center.
They were opened 27 days in December,
with 1, 953 visitors . Their daily average
was 72+ visitors .
The total number of visitors for 1987 was
21 , 890.
Disaster Plan Petty Ferra , 433 Ava Avenue, gave her
report on the last Disaster Meeting she
attended. She stated that every disaster
plan must have a purpose. Then the steps
are to plan, develop and coordinate.
Public awareness is essential .

Chairman Chase expressed his
disappointment regarding Public Safety
Officer Bill Martin ' s transfer to
graveyard patrol shift. He stated that
Pohnert Park needs Officer Martin ' s
expertise on disasters.

110 Elect Chairman Commissioner Kennedy made a motion to
re-appoint Chairman Chase as Chairman.
Commissioner Lyons seconded the motion.

Elect Vice Chairman Chairman Chase made a motion to re-
appoint Commissioner Kennedy as Vice
Chairman. Commissioner Jennis seconded
the motion .
Meeting Adjourned There being no further business and no
one further desiring to be heard,
Commissioner Lyons made a motion, which
was seconded by Commissioner Jennis, to
adjourn the meeting of the Rohnert Park
Senior Citizens Advisory Commission at
approximately 4:20 p.m.
