• April 21, 1988
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this
date in regular session commencing at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City
Hall , 6750 Commerce Boulevard, Rohnert Park, with Chairman Chase presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at
approximately 3 :00 p.m. and led the pledge of allegiance .
Present: (3) Commissioners Lyons, Kennedy and Chairman
Chase.
Absent: (2) Commissioners Jennis and Dolby.
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation
Supervisor Mary Hanlon and Senior Scheduler Wendy Brazeau.
Approval of
Minutes Upon a motion made by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by
Commissioner Lyons, the Minutes of March 17 , 1988 were
approved as submitted.
Announcements by
Chairman Chairman Chase summarized a letter he wrote to the Robert
E. Dennett regarding earthquake preparedness and Mr.
Amantite' s letter to the Senior Citizen Advisory
Commission.
Commissioner Kennedy suggested that pamphlets should be
sent out to the home-hound seniors regarding earthquake
preparedness. Chairman Chase concurred. He added that the
Senior Citizen Advisory Commission should ask the City
Council to help. Commissioner Lyons was in favor of
getting the neighborhoods to organize meetings and set up a
support system.
Senior Scheduler Wendy Brazeau indicated that the SCAN
Newletter, which goes to the seniors' residences in Rohnert
Park would be glad to have articles concerning the above
included. Chairman Chase indicated that he would contact
Ms. Brazeau to utilize this valuable resource.
Realtor' s
Donation Upon recognition from Chairman Chase, Recreation Supervisor
Mary Hanlon introduced Mr. Gary Bradley of the realtors in
Rohnert Park. Mr. Bradley indicated that he was
representing Buck Oates in presenting a check to the Senior
Citizens Advisory Commission in the amount of $500, $200 of
which is earmarked for the Senior Nutrition Site. The
Chairman thanked Mr. Bradley and the rest of the realtors
who participated in the basketball games which raised the
funds. He indicated that a thank you letter would be sent
to Mr. Buck Oates.

Chairman Chase indicated that the Senior Citizens Advisory
Commission would postpone deciding on how to spend the rest
of the $500 donation until the next meeting or when the
rest of the Commissioners are present.
Commissioner Kennedy suggested the $300 balance be used for
the Senior Day Service. Chairman Chase indicated that he
wanted to wait until the next meeting before deciding on
the issue.

Public
Appearances There were no unscheduled public appearances .
R.P. Volunteers Recreation Supervisor Mary Hanlon added that a luncheon was
held and that Commissioner Anne Kennedy represented the
volunteers in Rohnert Park.
Scrap Book Ms. Hanlon showed the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission
the scrap book that has been put together showing the
activities that the Senior Scheduler has been doing. It is
kept at the Community Center if anyone cares to look
through it. The position of Senior Scheduler is a 20-hour
per week position and is paid for through a grant. The
SCAN Newsletter has been the big accomplishment to come out
of the development of this position.

Drop-In Center
Report There was no report this month as Commissioner Jennis was
unable to attend the meeting.
Matters from
Commissioners
Senate Bill 2213 Chairman Chase urged those present to write their
legislators in support of Senate Bill 2213 which would
maintain competition in prescription drug pricing in
pharmacies.
Senator Cranston
Visiting Dining
Site On May 5, Senator Cranston will be at the Rohnert Park
Dining Site on Snyder Lane for a public forum from 11 a.m.
to 12 :30 p.m. Chairman Chase made a motion, seconded by
Commissioner Lyons and unanimously approved that the
Commission should attend the forum.
Grants Commissioner Kennedy has received phone calls from seniors
who have filled out applications for grants for mobile home
repairs and have not heard back from the Sonoma County
Development Department. Commissioner Kennedy indicated
that she would contact Ms . Tina Butler or John Herrick and

• inquire about the delay. Chairman Chase added that the
SCAN Newsletter would be a good way to inform the residents
about these available grants.
Senior Citizens'
Month Chairman Chase announced that May is Senior Citizens'
Month.
Health Insurance
Costs Chairman Chase stated that Comsumer' s Report had an article
regarding the cost of nursing homes , which ranges from
$1,800-3,000 per month. Discussion followed.
Chairman Chase added that there needs to be a change in the
law because a person's life savings can be used up so
quickly when health problems occur that one has nothing to
pass on to one' s heirs.
Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business and no one further desiring
to be heard, Commissioner Kennedy made a motion, which was
seconded by Commissioner Lyons, to adjourn the meeting of
the Rohnert Park Senior Citizens Advisory Commission at
approximately 3 :38 p .m.
