June 16, 1988
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date
in regular session commencing at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall,
6750 Commerce Boulevard, Rohnert Park, with Chairman Chase presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at
approximately 3:00 p.m. and led the pledge of allegiance.
Present: (4) Commissioners Jennis, Lyons, Kennedy and
Chairman Chase.
Absent: ( 1) Commissioner Dolby.
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Senior
Scheduler Wendy Brazeau, Administrative Assistant
Caroline Fabio and the secretary.
Approval of Minutes Upon a motion made by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by
Commissioner Jennis, the Minutes of May 19, 1988 were
approved as submitted.
Name Badges The Commissioners thanked Administrative Assistant
Caroline Fabio for their ❑ame badges.
Unscheduled Public
• Appearances Chairman Chase inquired if there were any unscheduled
public appearances and there were none.
Announcements by
Chairman Chairman Chase read his letter to Senator Alan Cranston
regarding extended care and in-home care. Chairman Chase
proposed that Medicare should cover these services
through increased premiums. He also proposed government
operated low-cost housing projects.
Upon recognition by Chairman Chase, Ms. Betty Ferra , 433
Ava Avenue, stated that low-cost housing such as 100
Enterprise Drive would be preferable to mobile home
parks, where the rents keep escalating.
Commissioner Dolby Chairman Chase inquired about Commissioner Dolby's
health, and the Commission agreed to send a "get well
card". Discussion followed.
Earthquake
Preparedness Chairman Chase voiced concern that the Commission has
received no response yet from the City Council regarding
earthquake preparedness. Administrative Assistant
Caroline Fabio indicated that she would follow up on this
issue.
Chairman Chase complimented Commissioner Jennis and Ms.
Ferra on their efforts to inform and prepare the public.

Extended Care Chairman Chase asked if there was sufficient interest in
the matter for him to invite a speaker to the next
meeting. The Commission concurred that such a speaker
might be able to enlighten the public on what types of
insurance are available.
Report on Senior
Activities Chairman Chase recognized Senior Scheduler Wendy Brazeau
who announced a county-wide senior picnic to he held June
26th at the Rohnert Park Stadium.
Ms. Brazeau indicated that the Senior Dances scheduled on
the second Thursday of each month are being well
attended. The dances are held at the Community Center
from 1 to 4 p.m.
Drop-in Center
Report Upon recognition by Chairman Chase, Commissioner Jennis
reported on the Senior Drop-In Center. The Center was
open 26 days in May and had 1,890 visitors , with a daily
average of 73 visitors. There were 15 new visitors.
All the mini blinds have been hung and are appreciated.
There was discussion regarding the need for improvement
in the area of greeting new visitors and making them feel
welcome and part of the group.
• Matters from
Commissioners Chairman Chase commented on letters he wrote personally
to the Public Utilities Commission regarding PG & E`s
rate structure and to Governor Deukmejian regarding the
Cal State Aid Program. (These letters were not written on
behalf of the Commission.)
Vial for Life
Program Commissioner Kennedy commented on the "Vial for Life
Program" and suggested using some of the donated funds to
revitalize the program. Furthermore, she would like to
ask Pat Anderson to be a speaker at the Commission's next
meeting.
Meeting Dates Commissioner Jennis suggested that the Commission meet
every other month during the summer. Discussion followed.
Upon a motion made by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by
Commissioner Jennis and unanimously approved, the July
meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission was
canceled. The next meeting will be August 18, 1988.
Signs Upon recognition by Chairman Chase, Ms. Georgia Stevens,
commented that the "No Skateboarding or Bicycling Sign"
in Raley-s Towne Center is large, visible and sufficient.

Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business and no one further
desiring to be heard, Commissioner Lyons made a motion,
which was seconded by Commissioner Kennedy, to adjourn
the meeting of the Rohnert Park Senior Citizens Advisory
Commission at approximately 3:41 p.m.
