The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met
this date in regular session commencing at 3 : 00 p.m. in the Council
Chambers at City Hall , 6750 Commerce Boulevard, Rohnert Park, with
Chairman Chase presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at
approximately 3 :00 p.m. and led the pledge of
allegiance.
Present: ( 3 ) Commissioners Kennedy, Jennis and
Chairman Chase.
Absent: ( 1) Commissioner Lyons .
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Senior
Scheduler Wendy Brazeau and the secretary.
Approval of
Minutes Upon a motion by Commissioner Jennis and seconded by
Commissioner Kennedy , the Minutes of October 20 , 1988
were approved as submitted.
Announcements by
Chairman Chairman Chase inquired about the vacancy on the
411 Commission and when it might be filled. The City
Council will make a selection in December.
Chairman Chase commented that if Public Safety Officer
Martin is too busy to contact Mr. Snyder of the
Clarion, then he may have to write the articles
himself regarding disaster/earthquake preparedness.
Mr. Chase read his letter to Mr. Claud Pepper
regarding catastrophic health care. In addition, a
letter received from Barbara Boxer was read regarding
the petition to rescind the catastrophic health care
legislation. Mr. Chase commented that AARP is the
sponsor of Senior News & Views and that they should
not speak on behalf of all seniors without taking a
poll . He further stated that he would write AARP
concerning the above .
Matters from
Commissioners -
Bicycle Safety Commissioner Jennis was recognized and read a letter
to the editor that appeared in the Press Democrat
regarding bicycle riding and commented that the
problem is "getting people to care. " The answer may
be to issue citations to those who disregard the rules
of the road; however, it was pointed out that the
411 Public Safety Department is understaffed at present.
Medicare Taxes Chairman Chase read an article that appeared in the
Clarion regarding medicare taxes for seniors .
Commissioner Jennis commented that Mrs. Dorothy

Johnson spoke at "Fun After Fifty" regarding the
above, which was very informative.
Residential
Care - Commissioner Jennis referred to an article which
appeared in the Press Democrat regarding residential
care week. She restated the highlights of the
article. Residential care facilities are group
housing arrangements and most are privately owned and
very expensive. Residential care is different than
home care. At present there are no non-profit
residential care facilities in Sonoma County.
Commissioner Jennis stressed how important this cause
was to her. She stated that we are all living longer
and our country just isn't ready to handle it. It was
her opinion that the Senior Citizens Advisory
Commission should get involved.
Chairman Chase requested Commissioner Jennis to call
for a copy of the plan she referred to in the
newspaper article for more information.
Senior
Scheduler -
Wendy Brazeau Chairman Chase recognized Senior Scheduler Wendy
Brazeau who stated that their recent Halloween Party
was a complete success . One hundred sixteen people
attended and participated in a costume contest.
The Third Annual Thanksgiving Dinner is planned for
next Tuesday. For $2 per person a full-course dinner
will be served. Ms. Brazeau acknowledged the
contribution of Mr. Tony Tam of Padre Towne Station.
On November 29 at 1 : 30 p.m. there will be a slide show
of Europe at the Community Center and refreshments
will be served. Anyone may attend.
Commissioner Jennis inquired about the status of the
volunteer disaster service workers. Ms. Brazeau
indicated that she is waiting for Officer Martin to
give her a copy of a report. She clarified that the
individuals would be police service aides and would be
put thorugh training. There will be an information
line at the Drop-In Center, open five days per week
and staffed by volunteers. Commissioner Jennis added
that there should be publicity on this program.
Chairman Chase suggested speaking to church groups and
Commissioner Jennis concurred.
• Chairman Chase commented that he has heard many
compliments regarding Ms . Brazeau in her capacity as
Senior Scheduler and commended her for doing such a
fine job.

Drop-In Center
Report There were 1 ,958 visitors in October and the center
was open 26 working days . There were 12 new visitors
and an average of 75 visitors per day.
Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one
further desiring to be heard, Commissioner Jennis made
a motion, seconded by Commissioner Kennedy to adjourn
the meeting of the Rohnert Park Senior Citizens
Advisory Commission at approximately 3 : 35 p.m.
