The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date
in regular session commencing at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall ,
6750 Commerce Boulevard, Rohnert Park, with Chairman Chase presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at approximately
3:00 p.m. and led the pledge of allegiance.
Oath of Office Secretary Lillian Brooks administered the Oath of Office to the
Incumbent Commissioners Kennedy and Lyons.

Present: (4) Commissioners Kennedy, Lyons, Jurgiel and
Chairman Chase
Absent: (1 ) Commissioner Jennis
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Caroline Fabio
and Secretary, Lillian Brooks.
Approval of
Minutes Upon a motion by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by Commissioner
• Jurgiel , with all present in favor, the November 16, 1989, were
approved as amended.

Selection of
Chairman and
Vice-Chairman A motion was made by Commissioner Jurgiel , seconded by Commissioner
Lyons and unanimously approved to re-appoint Commissioner Chase as
Chairman, and Commissioner Kennedy as Vice-Chairman of the Senior
Citizens Advisory Commission.

Appearances
Senior Boutique Annette Lyons, 14 Walnut Circle, was recognized by Chairman Chase.
She expressed her concerns about the Senior Boutique and questioned
why the Boutique was not being run by residents of Rohnert Park?
Betty Ferra, 433 Ava Avenue, informed the Commission that
Commissioner Jennis was to have sent a petition concerning this topic
and wanted to know the status of that communication.
Chairman Chase read the petition submitted by Commissioner Jennis (a
411 copy is attached to the original of these minutes) . Discussion
followed.

IIIAre You OK?
Program Wendy Audiss, Recreation Coordinator, reported on the Senior Drop-in
Center and various functions happening in the area. Ms. Audiss
informed the Commission that attendance for the Senior Center during
the month of December was approximately 2,089. Ms. Audiss advised
that the Senior Net System at the Codding Center will be used
primarily for education and a source for data. A small fee to become
a member of Senior Net is required. Since the inception of the Are
You OK? program, there are 30 subscribers and everything is
proceeding well .
Councilman Eck At approximately 3:10 Councilman Eck arrived.
Teen Center Councilman Eck, unofficially wanted to comment on the Teen Center.
Councilman Eck stressed the growing concern over the use of the
Codding Center. So as not to confuse the public, the City Council
does not want this Center to be referred to as the "Senior Center" .
Councilman Eck's intent is to make the Commission aware that the
Codding Center was intended for multiple usage and not just for
seniors . Councilman Eck stressed the importance of having well
defined policies and open communication so that the Center will work
for all . Discussion followed.

Hopkins Councilman Hopkins arrived at approximately 3:25.

Earthquake
Preparedness Councilman Hopkins expressed the need to prepare better for
earthquake disaster. The need to practice emergency programs is
extremely important. Councilman Hopkins encouraged discussion on
this matter. Chairman Chase stated that the League of Cities should
be a starting point for ideas to enact . Discussion followed.

Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further
desiring to be heard, Chairman Chase adjourned the meeting of the
Rohnert Park Senior Citizens Advisory Commission at approximately
3:45 p.m.
