1990/03/15 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES March 15, 1990 • The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall , 6750 Commerce Boulevard, Rohnert Park, with Chairman Chase presiding. Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 3:00 p.m. and led the pledge of allegiance. Roll Call Present: (4) Commissioners Kennedy, Lyons, Jurgiel and Chairman Chase Absent: (1) Commissioner Jennis Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Administrative Assistant Caroline Fabio and Secretary, Lillian Brooks. Approval of Minutes A correction was made to the minutes by Secretary Lillian Brooks which was brought to her attention earlier in the day by Evelyn Kim. Mrs. Kim stated that on the second page, the second sentence within the Boutique subject should have read as follows: Ms. Kim informed the Commission that during the 20 months of operation, the Boutique handled approximately $40,000, of which $27,000 went to ill consignees and $13,000 went to pay the rent, utilities and miscellaneous expenses. Upon a motion by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by Commissioner Lyons, with all present in favor, the minutes of February 15, 1989, was approved as amended. Adding Non- Agendaed Items None. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Chairman Chase stated that the Secretary had posted the Agenda as required by law in three (3) public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Appearances Commissioner Lyons questioned who decides who is going to serve on the Board for the Boutique? Commissioner Kennedy advised the Commission that the Recreation Department would most likely have that final decision but that she would look into it further. Applications for a Board position should be made available at the Senior Center and the Recreation Department for distribution. Communications None. Scheduled Public Appearances • Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes -2- March 15, 1990 Wendy Audiss Due to illness, Wendy Audiss was unable to speak at this meeting • as scheduled. A motion was made by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by Commissioner Jurgiel , with all present in favor, to continue Wendy Audiss' report at the next scheduled meeting. Commissioner Kennedy made the comment on the Are You OK? program, that it's doing great but felt there should he more participation. Hazel Brubaker, Senior Nutritian Site Coordinator, requested brochures and information that she could distribute to those that participate in the Meals on Wheels program. Discussion followed. Senior Center Administrative Assistant Caroline Fabio advised the Commission that the Senior Center project is out to bid and that this phase of the project will take approximately 3 months. Discussion followed. Other Items For Discussion Meals on Wheels Hazel Brubaker, Senior Nutrition Site Coordintor, was recognized by Chairman Chase . Ms. Brubaker informed the Commission that approximately 89 meals are being served daily. Matters from Commissioners • Chairman Chase brought up many issues affecting seniors today. He stressed the importance of writing to your Representative to express your feelings and opinions on issues that affect you. Discussion followed. It was requested that Emergency Medical Technician Louis Yeomans attend a Senior Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting to discuss Earthquake Preparedness . Other Unscheduled Public Appearances None .
