May 17 , 1990
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of
Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing
at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall , 6750
Commerce Boulevard , Rohnert Park , with Chairman Chase
presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at
approximately 2:69 p.m. and led the pledge of allegiance.

Administrative Assistant Caroline Fabio and Secretary ,

Approval of
Minutes Upon a motion by Commissioner Kennedy , seconded by
Commissioner Jennis , the Minutes of April 19 1990, was
approved by the following vote:

Senior Activities
Update Mrs. Wendy Audiss , Senior Scheduler , elaborated on the
"Are You OK?" program and stressed its importance within
the community. Mrs. Audiss also advised that Pacific
Springs would be very amicable to have various functions
held at their facilities. Wendy discussed various trips
and activities , past and present . For further
information , Wendy can be reached at the Recreation
Center on Snyder Lane. Mrs. Audiss informed the
Commission that the construction on the Codding Center
was to start sometime this month , to be completed in
September , and should be ready for occupancy in October.
Wendy reported that the Drop-In Center had 1871 visitors ,
which tallies out to approximately 72 people per day.
Discussion followed.
May - Older
Americans Month Councilman Eck extended the Mayor' s regrets of not being
available to present the proclamation for Older Americans
month to the Commission. Councilman Eck read the
proclamation and advised that there was a reception in
honor of older Americans after the meeting.

Matters from
Commissioners
Flo Jennis Commissioner Flo Jennis informed the Commission that she
has received information from the Senior Residential Care
Council of Sonoma County about the frail and elderly.
Commissioner Jennis advised that they need to research
and determine who is eligible to qualify for senior
residential care. Discussion followed.
Ann Kennedy Commissioner Kennedy advised that she's been in contact
with a Committee called Health and Human Rights Services.
She found it quite interesting. Commissioner Kennedy
advised that volunteer hours are put into a bank to be
used when you need them.
John Chase Chairman Chase brought up many issues affecting seniors
today. He stressed the importance of writing to your
Representative to express your feelings and opinions on
issues that affect you.
Vice Mayor
• Dave Eck Councilman Eck suggested to the Commission that they make
a motion to submit to the City Council a resolution to
adopt a similar resolution regarding saving Social
Security. Because this item was not posted on the
agenda , the Commission rules that this item was not known
when the Agenda was prepared and declared it an emergency
item in order to take action.

MOTION: A motion was made by Commissioner Jennis , seconded by
Commissioner Jurgiel and unanimously approved , to put a
resolution regarding social security on todays agenda as
an emergency item as outlined by Councilman Eck .
MOTION: A motion was made by Commissioner Jennis , seconded by
Commissioner Kennedy and unanimously approved , to have
Chairman Chase draft an official resolution to be
submitted to our representatives regarding the saving of
social security .
Earthquake
Preparedness Commissioner Jennis informed that as a follow-up to
Earthquake Preparedness , a door-to-door inquiry should be
done to ensure that residents are , in fact , preparing
themselves for en emergency situation.

1111 Hazel Brubaker Mrs. Brubaker honored the older Americans and volunteer
drivers. She advised that she is preparing for the move
and discussed purchases and expenditures related to the
move with the Commission.
Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one
further desiring to be heard , Chairman Chase adjourned
the meeting of the Rohnert Park Senior Citizens Advisory
Commission at approximately 3:39 p.m.
