1990/06/21 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES • June 21 , 1990 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall , 5750 Commerce Boulevard, Rohnert Park , with Chairman Chase presiding. Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 3:00 p.m. and led the pledge of allegiance. Roll Call Present : ( 5 ) Commissioners Kennedy , Jennis , Jurgiel , Lyons and Chairman Chase Absent : ( 0) Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Secretary , Lillian Brooks. Approval of Minutes Upon a motion by Commissioner Kennedy , seconded by Commissioner Jurgiel , the Minutes of May 17 , 1990, was approved by the following vote: AYES: (5) Commissioners Kennedy , Jennis , Jurgiel , Lyons and Chairman Chase 410 ABSENT: (0) Adding Non- Agendaed Items None. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Chairman Chase stated that the Secretary had posted the Agenda as required by law in three (3 ) public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Appearances None. Communications Chairman Chase reviewed for the Commission various pieces of correspondence that he had received. Scheduled Public Appearances Senior Activities Update Mrs. Wendy Audiss , Senior Scheduler , elaborated on the various functions occurring within the month of June. Mrs. Audiss also advised that Pacific Springs would be hosting the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee meeting at their facilities for the month of July. Wendy discussed various trips and activities , past and present . Wendy reported that the Drop-In Center had 1889 visitors , which averaged out to approximately 70 people per day. Discussion followed. Other Items For Discussion None. Matters from Commissioners Ann Kennedy Commissioner Kennedy inquired what the age limit was for the senior housing complex being built for seniors? Commissioner Kennedy requested that Staff write a letter to HUD asking what the possibilities are for providing new low-income housing for seniors. Commissioner Kennedy also inquiried about the possibility of recycling service within the mobile home parks. Discussion followed. Flo Jennis Commissioner Jennis advised that she had invited Marge Ling , Vice President of the Board and Chairperson of Needs Survey Project for Senior Residential Care Council of Sonoma County, to be the guest speaker at the July 19 meeting of the Senior Advisory Council . Commissioner Jennis also stressed the importance of reaching out to seniors and to try to promote interest . Ms. Audiss advised that she would contact the Post Office and report back at the next meeting. Discussion followed. Commissioner Jennis review for the Commission Resolution 80-214 which defines the objectives and responsibilities of the Senior Advisory Council . Lenore Jurgiel Commissioner Jurgiel advised that she will submit to the Sonoma County Transit a petition requesting service that would encompass northern Commerce Boulevard between Rohnert Park Expressway and Golf Course Drive. Other Unscheduled Public Appearances None.
