SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
September 20 , 1990
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of
Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing
at 3:00 p.m. at City Hall Council Chambers , 6750 Commerce
Blvd. , Rohnert Park , with Chairman Chase presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at
approximately 3:00 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present : (4 ) Commissioners Kennedy , Jennis , Jurgiel , and
Chairman Chase
Absent : ( 1 ) Commissioner Lyons
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Administra-
tive Assistant Caroline Fabio and Recreation Supervisor
Mary Hanlon.
Approval of
Minutes Upon a motion by Commissioner Kennedy , seconded by Commis-
sioner Jennis , the Minutes of July 19, 1990, were approved
by the following vote:
411 AYES: (4 ) Commissioners Kennedy , Jennis , Jurgiel , and
Chairman Chase

Posting of
the Agenda Chairman Chase stated that the Secretary had posted the
Agenda as required by law in three (3 ) public locations
within the time period required.

Caroline Fabio arrived.

Communications Chairman Chase reviewed for the Commission the reply he
had received from the Council concerning registration of
invalid residents and senior housing. Discussion

Earthquake Kits Commissioner Kennedy asked about the possibility of earth-
quake kits , i .e. flashlights , etc. , being made available
to the frail , elderly of Rohnert Park. It was decided
that Chairman Chase would formally request the City
Council for assistance in this matter.
Senior Housing Commissioner Jennis read a letter from the Council on
Aging entitled "Another Loss for Affordable Housing. "
Discussion followed regarding future developments of city
housing.
Recycling Commissioner Jennis discussed her concerns over all the
items that are not being recycled from mobile home parks
and her own efforts at County Club Village to recycle.
She's making flyers to take to mobile home parks as to how
and where they can recycle. Discussion followed.
• Income Tax Alert Commissioner Jennis read a letter from Evert Sheets of
Sacramento regarding income tax alert for seniors and the
medicare surtax and raising medicare premiums which urged
seniors to write and call Congress letting them know they
are against the surtax . Discussion followed.
Senior Activities
Update Wendy Audiss , Program Assistant , gave an update on Codding
Center.
$690 was raised by the Drop-In Center' s garage sale.
A.A.R.P. and the Senior Advisory Commission will meet at
Codding Center when it opens .
New programs at Codding Center will be autobiography
writing class , chairaerobics , bridge club , HICAP volunteer
one time per week , Council on Aging's Budget Masters
(assistance with balancing checkbook ) one time per month ,
and an investment class.
The next tea dance is October 30.
Travel Club update: Reno trip on September 29 and on
October 4 & S.

Forty-five (45 ) people are currently on the "Are You
Okay?" program.

Over 900 people are now on the mailing list for the SCAN
newsletter.
Drop-in Center attendance for August was 2 ,198.
Foot screenings are held on Mondays at Burton Avenue
Recreation Center.

Good-bye Administrative Assistant Caroline Fabio announced that
Mary Hanlon , Recreation Supervisor , was replacing her as
411 staff liaison and that her door was always open. The
Commissioners thank her for her work.
Meeting Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one
further desiring to be heard, Chairman Chase adjourned the
meeting of the Rohnert Park Senior Citizens Advisory
Commission at approximately 4: 10 p .m.
