1990/07/19 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES July 19, 1990 411 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 3:00 p.m. at The Springs, 4855 Snyder Lane, Rohnert Park, with Chairman Chase presiding. Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 3:05 p.m. and led the pledge of allegiance . Roll Call Present: (5) Commissioners Kennedy, Jennis , Jurgiel , Lyons and Chairman Chase Absent: (0) Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Administrative Assistant Caroline Fabio, Recreation Supervisor Mary Hanlon and Secretary, Lillian Brooks. Approval of Minutes Upon a motion by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by Commissioner Lyons, the Minutes of June 21, 1990, was approved by the following vote: AYES: (5) Commissioners Kennedy, Jennis, Jurgiel , Lyons and Chairman Chase ABSENT: (0) Adding Non- Agendaed Items None. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Chairman Chase stated that the Secretary had posted the Agenda as required by law in three (3) public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Appearances None . Communications Chairman Chase reviewed for the Commission various pieces of correspondence that he had written to the City Council concerning emergency care provisions, registration of invalid residents for follow-up inquiry in the event of a catastrophe, and the possibility of approaching HUD relative to low cost housing. Scheduled Public Appearances Marge Ling Chairman Chase introduced Mrs. Marge Ling to those in attendance. Mrs. Ling, Chairperson of the Senior Residential Care Council of Sonoma County, is striving to see that quality residential care is available for Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes July 19, 1990 • Page 2 those residents who are 60 years of age or older. Mrs. Ling explained about SSI and other aides that are available to our senior residents. Discussion followed, Commissioner Lyons At approximately 3:35, Commissioner Lyons departed the meeting. Commissioner Lyons At approximately 3: 39 , Commissioner Lyons returned. Senior Activities Update Mrs . Wendy Audiss , Senior Scheduler, introduced herself and elaborated on the various functions occurring within the month of July. Wendy discussed various trips and activities, past and present. For further information, Wendy can be reached at the Recreation Center on Snyder Lane , Wendy reported that the Drop-In Center had 1779 visitors, which averaged out to approximately 68 people per day. Discussion followed. Codding Center Mary Hanlon, Recreation Supervisor, advised that the City was in the process of ordering the furniture and kitchen equipment for the Codding Center, with October being the month targeted for occupation. Discussion followed, Other Items For Discussion None. Matters from Commissioners Ann Kennedy Commissioner Kennedy informed the Board that a rummage sale was going to be held on August 18 at Northbay Savings. She encouraged donations of items from the residents. Herb Lyons A motion was made by Commissioner Lyons, seconded by Commissioner Kennedy and unanimously approved, to cancel the meeting for August 16. Other Unscheduled Public Appearances None.
