2007/05/17 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes (3) 1 CITY OF ROHNERT PARK SENIORCITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES May 17, 2007 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Vice Chair Cassinelli presiding. Call to Order Vice Chair Cassinelli called the regular session to order at approximately 1:00 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call Present (4)Commissioners: Cassinelli, Bosshard, Hawker, and Sampson Staff present: Vicki Wilkerson, Betty Tringali, Berni Altman, and City Council Liaison Pam Stafford Approval of The minutes of the January 18, 2007 meeting were approved as Minutes submitted. 4111 Posting of Secretary Sampson acknowledged that the agenda was posted as required the agenda by law in three (3) public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Appearances None City Council Pam Stafford reported that the old Albertsons store will be replaced by . Liaison a Grocery Outlet Store. The new buildings by the freeway on the East Report side will be retail stores. The first one to open will be a kiddie store and will be accessed by a driveway beside the old Wendy's location. Quisnos is considering a location there. There will be a special Memorial Day celebration with the Rohnert Park Band at the community center. The City of Rohnert Park is trying to improve the friendly city image. There are plans to make walking more appealing instead of driving. Studies are being done to accomplish this. An Art Ordinance was passed- over S500,000.00 will be required to acquire public art. The community center and Spreckles will have many changes. The pool will be removed and parking will be reworked. City Council 11, Parks & Rec. Commission None Recreation Vicki Wilkerson made her report to both the Senior Advisory and Supervisor the Senior Support Committee. The financial report is attached. Report There are many services being offered at the senior center which are verybeneficial including Hearing Screenin ,AARP every 1 �ondav 9 - 12 d tax help every Fridayf l l . TOPS (take off rKk pounds sensibility)is trying to add an evening class. Spanish- English classes, and exercise classes to name a few. There are Seminars from Synergy and the Red Cross. There are plans for a cabaret in the main room. This will include 8 round tables, lighting in ceiling, stage lighting, seating for 64 people . Joe Tringali will provide entertainment. This may work into twice a month and could replace the annual Variety Show. The Old and New Market spaces are selling well. Fun After 50 Club will be serving food. Lots of ads and radio spots. The POA(Police Officers Association)will be serving their annual pancake breakfast Aug. 18t. Several day trips are coming up- Reno turnaround, Winchester House, and a movie tour. The handicapped van has been ordered and will be received in 8 - 10 weeks. It meets ADA laws and will be a great addition to our transportation needs. The cell phones we distributed didn't work and we have been unable to contact Secure Calls.
