SENIOR CITIZEN'S ADVISORY COMMISSION
MINUTES
Thursday, January 20, 2011
Call to order Chairman Sampson called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. and led
the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present: Ackerman, Hawker, Sampson.
Also present: Pam Stafford, City Council Liaison, Guy Miller, Recreation
Services Manager
Approval of Minutes The minutes of the September 16, 2010 meeting were
approved as submitted.
411 Posting of the Agenda Recreation Staff acknowledged that the agenda was
posted as required by law in three public locations.
Oath of Office The Oath of Office was administered to Commissioners Sampson,
Hawker, and Ackerman.
Election of Officers Commissioner Hawker voted to table this item until the next
meeting in hopes the vacant positions would be filled. Second by Sampson.
Approved 3-1
Technical Advisor Report Manager Miller reported Technical Advisor Jessica
Schieberl was out ill and reported in her absence. Beginning November 15th the
Senior Center will no longer be using Styrofoam cups for coffee service.
The SSU Connection program will start up again mid-February.
New carpet has been installed by Rugworks.
The first ever Winter Tea went extremely well on Saturday, January 8. This
event raised in $1,400 for the Senior Center.
41111 Activities Reports:
Senior Meals Programs — In Pam Schaeffer's absence, Mmiller reported : the
dining room served 892 meals and delivered 4,068 meals.
SweetPea Gift Shoppe —No report.
Income Tax Services—No report.
Parks & Recreation Commission Liaison Report— No report.
City Council Liaison Report— Pam Stafford reported on budget issues and the
Sewer Stakeholder Group. She reported that the city's emphasis is currently on
economic development to bring in new businesses and gave examples of how the
CDC money is being used to stimulate commercial growth.
Recreation Services Manager Report—Reported on the upcoming 50th
Anniversary organizational meetings and the new benches at the Community
Center.
Communications— None
Matters from Commissioners—Commissioner Sampson discussed her
experiences on the Sewer Stakeholder's Meetings.
Adjournment
There being no further business of the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at
2:00 p.m.
