SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
November 21 , 1991
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the
City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular
session commencing at 3:07 p.m. at Codding Center,
6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with
Chairman Chase presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order
at approximately 3 :07 p.m. and led the Pledge of
Allegiance.
Roll Call Present : (4) Commissioners Jennis , Jurgiel ,
Lyons, and Chase
Absent : (1) Commissioner Kennedy
Staff present for all or part of the meeting:
Recreation Supervisor , Mary Hanlon, Program
Specialist , Wendy Audiss, and Senior Scheduler,
Vicki Wilkerson.
Approval of
411 Minutes Upon a motion by Commissioner Jennis and seconded
by Commissioner Chase, the minutes of October 17 ,
1991 were approved by the following vote:
AYES: ( 4) Commissioners Jennis, Jurgiel ,
Lyons, and Chase

Acknowledging
Posting of
the Agenda Chairman Chase stated that the
Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as
required by law in three (3) public locations
within the time period required.

Communications Chairman Chase wrote a letter to the City Council
regarding signs at Hunter and Enterprise Drives .
Commissioner Jurgiel said the sign had been moved
to a better location.

Specialist
Report Program Specialist Audiss gave an update of senior
activities including Drop-In Center figures ,
breakfast bingo, youth and family usage, Solvang
trip, Y.F.W. ceremony on December 7 , Chamber mixer
on December 12 , and open house on December 19.
Matters
from the
Commissioners Commissioner Lyons made a motion to cancel
December' s meeting which was seconded by
Commissioner Jennis and approved by the following
vote.
AYES : (4) Commissioners Jennis , Jurgiel ,
Lyons, and Chase
NAYES: (0) None
Commissioner Lyons made a motion to have meetings
every other month beginning January 16 .
Commissioner Jennis seconded the motion which was
approved by the following vote:
AYES: (4) Commissioners Jennis, Jurgiel ,
Lyons, and Chase
NAYES : (0) None
Senior
Scheduler Senior Scheduler Wilkerson asked the commissioners
for suggestions on ways to stimulate attendance at
these meetings . Discussion followed on ways to
increase attendance such as holding meetings at
different locations around town, continue to work
on publicity, have speakers with refreshments , and
changing the time of the meeting. Commissioner
Jennis suggested the commissioners come back to
the January meeting with suggested ways to
increase attendance.

Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no
one further desiring to be heard, a motion was
made by Commissioner Lyons at approximately 3:50
p.m. to adjourn the meeting which was seconded by
Commissioner Chase and unanimously approved.

Program Specialist Audiss advised that discount
program information will be included in the
February S.C.A.N.
Chairman Chase received letters from Congressman
Riggs regarding social security, from
Congresswoman Barbara Boxer regarding government
waste, and from Assemblyman Bill Filante regarding
aid to the hungry.

Report Program Specialist Audiss gave an update of senior
activities including Drop-In Center figures and
1992 day trips and handed out dance flyers for the
February 11th Tea Dance.
Matters
from the
Commissioners Commissioner Kennedy made a motion to change the
meeting time of the Senior Advisory meetings to
1 :00 p.m. beginning with the March 19th meeting.
411 The motion was seconded by Commissioner Jennis and
approved by the following vote.
AYES: (4) Commissioners Jennis , Jurgiel ,
Kennedy, and Chase
NAYES: (0) None
Discussion followed on ways to increase attendance
at the Senior Advisory meetings . The Commission
felt they need more publicity and should advertise
topics for discussion.
Commissioner Kennedy suggested having lunch with
S.N.A. P. and inviting the participants to the
Senior Advisory meetings . Chairman Chase asked
for suggestions for a topic for the March meeting.
Program Specialist Audiss suggested inviting the
Sonoma County Community Development Commission to
speak about the residential rehabilitation
program. The Commission requested that Program
Specialist Audiss pursue setting up a speaker from
the above program for their March 19th meeting .
Commissioner Jurgiel brought up the "Teddy Bear"
project, where seniors make "No Tears Care Bears"
for Public Safety officers to carry in case of an
111 emergency to calm youngsters . She said Chief
Dennett thinks the idea is wonderful .
Commissioner Jurgiel will contact the Chief to
speak at the Commission's March meeting.

Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no
one further desiring to be heard, a motion was
made by Commissioner Kennedy at approximately 3 : 50
p.m. to adjourn the meeting which was seconded by
Commissioner Jurgiel and unanimously approved.
