SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
January 21 , 1993
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of
Rohnert Park met this date in regular session
commencing at 3 :00 p.m. at Codding Center, 6800 Hunter
Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chairman Chase
presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at
approximately 3 :05 p.m. and led the Pledge of
Allegiance .
Roll Call Present : (3) Commissioners Chase, Jurgiel and Lyons
Absent : (2 ) Commissioners Jennis and Kennedy
Staff present for all or part of the meeting:
Recreation Supervisor, Mary Hanlon, Senior Scheduler,
Vicki Wilkerson, and Councilwoman Spiro.
Approval of
Minutes A motion to approve the minutes for the meeting of
November 19th was made by Commissioner Jurgiel ,
seconded by Commissioner Lyons and unanimously
approved .
Acknowledging
Posting of
the Agenda Chairman Chase stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had
posted the Agenda as required by law in three (3)
public locations within the time period required .
Unscheduled
Public
Appearances Councilwoman Spiro informed the Commission that she had
been appointed by the City Council to be the liaison to
the Commission.
Communications Chairman Chase read a letter he'd written to the local
Congressional representatives asking that the Social
Security benefits to seniors not be reduced and the
Social Security funds be separated from the general
fund. He also asked if petitions that he had collected
affirming the above could be mailed under the signature
of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission.
Councilwoman Spiro said she would take said petitions
to the City Manager to check and that Recreation
Supervisor Hanlon would follow up with the City
Manager .

Matters
from the
Commissioners Commissioner Jurgiel expressed an interest in having an
"Adopt a Grandparent" program at the Senior Center .
Supervisor Hanlon reported that she'd been approached
by a representative from this program and that a formal
presentation was scheduled for the next Senior Advisory
Commission meeting.
Commissioner Jurgiel also expressed an interest in
having the seniors working in some capacity with the
youth in the community. Councilwoman Spiro mentioned
the newly developing Boys & Girls Club and that they
would welcome any volunteers .

Scheduler
Report Senior Scheduler, Vicki Wilkerson, updated the
Commission on the penny jar, organ donation , Sonoma
Express fundraiser, Thanksgiving dinner, fashion show,
tea dances , classes , and attendance figures .
Piano
Donation Supervisor Hanlon reported that Mayor Hollingsworth has
donated $1 , 200 .00 to the Senior Center to be used to
purchase a piano.
4411 Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one
further desiring to be heard, a motion was made by
Commissioner Jurgiel at approximately 3 : 35 p .m. to
adjourn the meeting which was seconded by Commissioner
Chase and unanimously approved .
