1993/03/18 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes aCITY OF ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES March 18 , 1993 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 1 : 00 p .m. at Codding Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chairman Chase presiding . Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 1 : 05 p .m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call Present : (4) Commissioners Chase, Jennis , Kennedy and Lyons Absent : (2) Commissioners Jurgiel Staff present for all or part of the meeting : Recreation Supervisor, Mary Hanlon, Senior Scheduler, Vicki Wilkerson, and Councilwoman Spiro. Approval of Minutes A motion to approve the minutes for the meeting of All January 21st was made by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by Commissioner Lyons and unanimously approved. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Chairman Chase stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as required by law in three ( 3) public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Appearances Councilwoman Spiro asked the commissioners for a senior volunteer to serve on the Committee on Youth and Families . The next meeting is scheduled for July 12 , 1993 at 5 p.m. Chairman Chase volunteered. Councilwoman Spiro stated she has contacted Mary Cavesa regarding the bench on Golf Course Drive. Discussion followed. Commissioner Kennedy asked about ambulance service. Councilwoman Spiro stated the city has a current franchise agreement with a company and no other company would be looked at until the current agreement has expired . Communications Chairman Chase read a letter from Senator Boxer 410 outlining some of her goals as a senator and the concerns regarding the inclusion of rental income. Page - 1 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes March 18 , 1993 Scheduled Public Appearance Marge Ling from the Senior Residential Care Council of Sonoma County gave the commission an overview of their "Adopt a Grandparent(s )" program. The commission requested that the counselor with the program from Rancho Cotate High School as well as some of the youths involved in the program give a formal presentation before a group of interested seniors which will be forthcoming . Program Specialist Report Program Specialist Audiss updated the commission on the piano purchase and launching party (April 2 at 2 p .m. ) , mug rack, fashion show , Laughlin trip , Senior Center statistics , and reminded the commission that the May meeting will include an "Older Americans Month" celebration. Senior Scheduler Report Senior Scheduler, Vicki Wilkerson , updated the Commission on the tea dances . Matters from the Commissioners Chairman Chase complimented the council on its continued support of senior programs . He also discussed an apparent lack of concern on the part of some seniors regarding issues that affect them directly . Councilwoman Spiro suggested putting a notice in the City water bills notifying seniors of meetings . Meeting Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard, a motion was made by Commissioner Kennedy at approximately 1 : 50 p .m. to adjourn the meeting which was seconded by Commissioner Jennis and unanimously approved .
