SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
November 18, 1993
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met
this date in regular cdtcsion commencing at 1:00 p.m. at Codding Center, 6800
Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chairman Chase presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 1:05
p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (5) Commissioners Chase,Jennis,Jurgiel, Kennedy and Lyons
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Supervisor,Mary
Hanlon; Program Specialist,Wendy Audiss; and Senior Scheduler, Vicki
Wilkerson.
Approval of
Minutes A motion to accept the minutes for the meeting of September 16th as written
was made by Commissioner Jennis,seconded by Commissioner Jurgiel and
unanimously approved.
Acknowledging
Posting of
the Agenda Chairman Chase stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda
as required by law in three (3) public locations within the time period
required.

Appearances None
Communications Supervisor Hanlon read a letter to the Senior Advisory Council from
Councilwoman Spiro regarding the update of the Senior Center space and
stating she could not be in attendance at today's Commission meeting since
she would be at an A.B.A.G. meeting.
Program
Specialist
Report Program Specialist,Wendy Audiss,updated the Senior Advisory Commission
on the following October activities: attendance for activities at the Senior
Center was 5,264; Sunshine Bus rides given was 185; 87 people took
excursions; revenue for programs,classes,rentals,etc. was $4,495.99; and an
anniversary bingo update.
The annual Thanksgiving dinner will be November 23, 1993 at the
Community Center. City Councilman Hollingsworth donated $100 towards
the purchase of the pumpkin pies for the dinner.
There will be a Holiday Open House Tour on December 20 from 6-8 p.m.,
and a brochure has been prepared highlighting the 1994 trips.

Scheduler
Report Senior Scheduler, Vicki Wilkerson, reported the attendance of the last tea dance
and the revenue to date from all dances. The next tea dance when the
Moonlighters will be playing will be November 21.
Matters from
Commissioners Commissioner Kennedy discussed the suggestion of the Senior Advisory Council
having a different liaison to the City Council. Discussion followed regarding the
length of Council members'terms as liaisons,their responsibilities and the issue
of conflict of interest.
Commissioner Kennedy made a motion requesting Chairman Chase write a letter
asking for Linda Spiro's resignation. Commissioner Jennis challenged the
motion. Discussion followed regarding the Senior Advisory Commission's
concerns as stated above and Councilmember Spiro's handling of the seniors'
request for the Center's expansion.
Commissioner Kennedy withdrew her motion.
Commissioner Jennis made a motion requesting that Chairman Chase write a
letter to Councilmember Spiro inviting her to the next Senior Advisory
Commission to discuss the above concerns. Commissioner Jurgiel seconded the
motion which was unanimously approved.
Elaina Williamson Elaina Williamson, 81 Francis Circle, Rolmert Park,asked for the reason behind
Ann Rooth's removal from the Senior Center. Program Specialist Audiss updated
the Commission on the problems and the follow-up as to Ann's well-being and her
1111 subsequent referral to Mental Health.
Emergency Forms Supervisor Hanlon reiterated the importance of the Senior Center having a
completed emergency form on all users of the Center. A medical emergency
arose at the Community Center,and when the emergency form was reviewed,it
was not complete (i.e.,missing what medications person was taking and names of
physicians). Discussion followed.
Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard,
Commissioner Kennedy made a motion for adjournment at 1:45 p.m. which was
seconded by Commissioner Jurgiel.
