1994/03/17 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes 11/ CITY OF ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES March 17, 1994 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 1:07 p.m. at Codding Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A,Rohnert Park, with Chairman Chase presiding. Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 1:07 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call Present: (5) Commissioners Chase,Jennis,Jurgiel,Kennedy and Lyons Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Supervisor,Mary Hanlon; Program Specialist,Wendy Audiss; and Senior Scheduler, Vicki Wilkerson. Approval of Minutes A motion to accept the minutes for the meeting of January 20th as written was made by Commissioner Kennedy,seconded by Commissioner Jennis and unanimously approved. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Chairman Chase stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as required by law in three (3) public locations within the time period 411 required. Unscheduled Public Appearances None Communications None Program Specialist Report Program Specialist,Wendy Audiss,updated the Senior Advisory Commission on the following items: new stop sign in the parking lot,Craft Shoppe sales, clothing and bake sale,February program attendance (4,191),Baja Mexico cruise,upcoming fashion show (April 16),Older Americans Month in May, and pool table donation. Discussion followed on the various usages of the pool table. Senior Scheduler Report Senior Scheduler, Vicki Wilkerson,reported on the two tea dances held in March and thanked local columnist,Ann Rasmussen,for her continued,great coverage of senior activities in the Community Voice. Ann Rasmussen Ann Rasmussen mentioned that Double Decker Lanes has extended its free bowling to seniors on Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. through April. Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes March 17, 1994 Matters from Commissioners Commissioner Chase updated the Commissioners on the last Community Outreach meeting. Discussion followed on Kathy Vander Vennett's role. Program Specialist Audiss and Recreation Supervisor Hanlon explained some of C.O.Y.F.'s functions and updated the Commission on the Senior Center expansion. Commissioner Chase discussed the importance of letter writing to legislators to voice opinions on issues pertaining to seniors. Commissioner Chase presented a listing of reference phone numbers. Commissioner Jennis would like to develop a list of youths willing to work at a wage affordable to seniors. Recreation Supervisor Hanlon offered to invite Kathy Vander Vennett to the next Senior Advisory Commission Meeting to discuss her role and answer any questions. The Commission agreed they would like her to attend. Parking Concerns Recreation Supervisor Hanlon reported that City staff who park their personal vehicles around the Codding Center have experienced many scratches and dents on the sides of their cats,possibly by senior drivers coming to the Senior Center. The following suggestions were made: setting aside reserved parking for city staff and putting an announcement in the SCAN asking seniors to be careful parking. Discussion continued on the status of the shopping carts around town. Recreation Supervisor Hanlon updated the Commission on the steps that have been taken to work on this problem. It was suggested that a service organization might want to hold a fund raiser to subsidize buying alternative carts for those people in town who need them instead of using the stores'carts. Lyons Leaves At 1:55 p.m. Commissioner Lyons left the meeting. Meeting Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard, Commissioner Jennis made a motion for adjournment at 2 p.m. which was seconded by Commissioner Kennedy.
