SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
July 21, 1994
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date
in regular session commencing at 1:08 p.m. at Codding Center,6800 Hunter Drive,
Suite A,Rohnert Park,with Chairman Chase presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 1:08 p.m. and
led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (4) Commissioners Chase,Jennis,Jurgiel,and Lyons
Late: (1) Commissioner Kennedy
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Program Specialist,Wendy Audiss, and
Senior Scheduler, Vicki Wilkerson.
Approval of
Minutes A motion to accept the minutes for the meeting of May 19th with the clarification
that youths who help seniors with their yard work,errands,etc. are not screened was
made by Commissioner Jurgiel,seconded by Commissioner Jennis and unanimously
approved.

Posting of
the Agenda Chairman Chase stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as
required by law in three (3) public locations within the time period required.

Kennedy Arrives At 1:12 p.m. Commissioner Kennedy arrived at the meeting.

Communications Chairman Chase read letters he had sent to Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey regarding
Social Security and health insurance.
Program
Specialist
Report Program Specialist,Wendy Audiss,updated the Senior Advisory Commission on the
following items: a pool demonstration and tournament at the Senior Center in July,
Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey's congressional office hours at the Senior Center on
July 30 from 2:00-3:30 p.m., Kitchen Kut-Up sales, open house, the annual barbecue
and auction held in August,the Area Agency on Aging grant application,and the
upcoming health faire. Total attendance at the Senior Center for the month of June
was 5,290 with a total revenue of$4,679.09.
Senior
Scheduler
Report Senior Scheduler, Vicki Wilkerson,reported the fiscal year report on the Tea Dance.
The Moonlighters dance is scheduled for July 24. Attendance at the July 12th Tea
Dance was 80 with revenues of$105.56. A Hawaiian Dance is scheduled in August.
A memo regarding the dances will be sent to the City Council since Councilwoman
• Spiro was not at the meeting to receive.
Matters from
is Commissioners Commissioner Lyons advised it was the 14th anniversary of the Senior Advisory
Commission.
Discussion was held regarding the absence of Councilwoman Linda Spiro without
notification of the Commission,especially after previous discussions on this matter.
Chairman Chase will write a letter to Councilwoman Spiro and include information
from this meeting for her to share with the City Council.
Chairman Chase updated the Commission on earthquake preparedness information
including supplies,how to turn off utilities,know your neighbors,etc.
Commissioner Jennis discussed getting a monthly or regular neighborhood watch or
warden program for disaster training. She felt the major obstacle is public apathy.
Discussion followed on the "Are You Prepared Program" which is now on hold.
Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard,
Commissioner Jennis made a motion for adjournment at 1:58 p.m. which was seconded
by Commissioner Lyons.
