1995/03/16 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes • CITY OF ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES March 16, 1995 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 1:12 p.m. at the Rohnert Park Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Vice Chair Kennedy presiding. Call to Order Vice Chair Kennedy called the regular session to order at approximately 1:12 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call Present: (3) Commissioners Brubaker,Kennedy,and Lyons Absent: (2) Commissioners Chase and Jurgiel Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Supervisor,Mary Hanlon; Program Specialist,Wendy Audiss; Parks and Recreation Commissioners,Elizabeth Desmond; and City Councilwoman,Linda Spiro. Approval of Minutes A motion was made to accept the minutes for the meeting of January 19 was made by Commissioner Brubaker,seconded by Commissioner Kennedy and unanimously approved. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Vice Chair Kennedy stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as required by law in three (3)public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Appearances None Scheduled Public Appearances None City Council Liaison Report Councilwoman Spiro followed up on the commission's question of who the volunteers would be for the seniors during an emergency. The City will be responsible for assigning volunteers depending upon the type of emergency. Councilwoman Spiro has met with a group of medical professionals looking to put together a medical complex. They will coordinate with the seniors and other groups to find out the needs. Councilwoman Spiro will ask that 24-hour care be included and that the long term care issue be addressed. They will be at the next Senior Advisory meeting. Communications None Program Specialist Report Program Specialist,Wendy Audiss,updated the Commission on the following activities: Fashion Show on February 26,Health Faire on May 13,February program attendance was 6,143, Sunshine Bus attendance was 173,and excursions attendance was 88. • 11110 The Sonoma County Crushers baseball team is looking for senior volunteers for games. The team would then make a financial donation to the Senior Center. The next Senior Advisory Commission meeting will be held in the big room in conjunction with an art show. Senior Scheduler Report None Matters from Commissioners Commissioner Brubaker requested that Chairman Chase write to the legislators regarding their proposed cuts to Social Security. She also wanted the seniors to be aware of the scams that are aimed at them. Program Specialist Audiss noted that there have been seminars held at the Senior Center addressing this very issue. Rummage Sale Councilwoman Spiro announced that the Boys and Girls Club will be holding a rummage sale on May 6.
