1995/05/18 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes • CITY OF ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES May 18, 1995 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 1 p.m. at the Rohnert Park Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chairman Chase presiding. Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 1 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call Present: (5) Commissioners Brubaker, Chase, Jurgiel, Kennedy, and Lyons Absent: (0) None Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Supervisor, Mary Hanlon; Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss; Senior Scheduler, Vicki Wilkerson; and City Councilwoman, Linda Spiro. Approval of Minutes A motion was made to accept the minutes for the meeting of March 16 was made by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by Commissioner Brubaker and unanimously approved. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Vice Chair Kennedy stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as required by law in three (3) public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Appearances None Scheduled Public Appearances Councilwoman Spiro stated that the medical professionals were unable to make the presentation and would have to reschedule. Instead, Jerry Martin from Memorial Hospital discussed the various services available at their clinic in Rohnert Park: lab and x-ray services, free blood pressure checks, and a variety of community education classes (diet, nutrition, exercise, stress management, and cholesterol workshops). Discussion followed on the various types of supplemental insurance plans that are being offered, i.e., Medi-Prime, and also, the future of the medicare program. For information on any of the programs at Memorial, Mr. Martin suggested calling 584-8588. Autobiographical Club Presentations Geets Vincent, Santa Rosa Junior College instructor, thanked the City for the use • of the Senior Center for the Autobiographical Class space. Three students from the class read their stories. Page - 1 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes - May 18, 1995 City Council Liaison Report Councilwoman Spiro presented and read a resolution from the City Council in honor of Older Americans' Month. Communications Chairman Chase read a letter he had written to Congressman Riggs and Congresswoman Woolsey regarding the Personal Responsibility Act as it pertains to the reduction of funding for the senior nutrition programs. He read a reply from Congresswoman Woolsey stating that she, too, shared his concerns and would be opposing any reductions. Chairman Chase urged the seniors to write to their representatives regarding this issue. Senior Scheduler Leaves Senior Scheduler Wilkerson left the meeting at approximately 1:50 p.m. Program Specialist Report Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss, updated the Commission on the following activities: Family Health Faire, flea market, pool tournaments, and the Police Officers' Association brunch on May 6. She announced a spaghetti feed on June 10. Program Specialist Audiss also gave the Senior Scheduler report due to Scheduler Wilkerson's absence. There were two tea dances in April with revenue of$428.81. The next dance of May 21 st is at the Community Center. The Baking Committee • had no expenses. Donations were cash at $14.20 and food valued at $70.88. Senior Scheduler Report Given by Program Specialist Audiss. See previous report. Matters from Commissioners None Refreshments Program Specialist Audiss announced refreshments would be served at the conclusion of the meeting in honor of Older Americans' Month. Meeting Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard, Commissioner Kennedy made a motion for adjournment at 2:05 p.m. which was seconded by Commissioner Jurgiel and unanimously approved.
