SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION
EMERGENCY MEETING MINUTES
August 24, 1995
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this
date in an emergency session commencing at 11 a.m. at the Rohnert Park Senior
Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chairman Chase
presiding.
Call to Order Chairman Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 11:02 a.m.
and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (3) Commissioners Brubaker, Chase, and Kennedy
Absent: (2) Commissioners Jurgiel and Lyons
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Supervisor, Mary Hanlon,
and Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss.
Acknowledging
Posting of
the Agenda Vice Chair Kennedy stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as
required by law in three (3) public locations within the time period required.
Scheduled Public
Appearances Robert Weinman, 5763 Dexter Circle, Rohnert Park, asked that the Senior
Advisory Commission send a thank-you letter to the City Council for their funding
of Vicki Wilkerson's position.
He read a letter from the head of the Taxpayer's Association, Mr. Hewitt,
regarding A.A.R_P.'s refusal to reduce spending within the organization. He stated
that his committee had tentatively named themselves the Senior Citizens Truth
Squad. (Please note that Bob Weinmann contacted me after the meeting to tell me
that the committee's name had been changed to Seniors Concerned About
Tomorrow [SCAT].) He then asked for the Commission's endorsement of his
committee.
Commissioner Brubaker moved that the Senior Advisory Commission endorse this
committee and that a letter to this effect be included in the September SCAN as
well as a meeting to be held to discuss concerns regarding A.A.R.P., Social
Security, and Medicare. Commissioner Kennedy seconded the motion which was
unanimously approved.
Hertzel Harrison Hertzel Harrison, 4413 Hamlet Court, Rohnert Park, stated that he had problems
• pulling out his car when it was parked next to the Senior Center's vans. He
delivers meals for the SNAP program and needs to park his car next to the SNAP

I kitchen. Then, when he tries to back out, he has difficulty maneuvering around the
Senior Center vans. He stated he had brought this concern up with Recreation
Supervisor, Mary Hanlon, before.
She stated this was the first time he had talked to her about it. Mr. Harrison stated
that he was putting the City on notice. if he gets hurt or his car damaged while
backing up when he's parked next to a van, he will sue the City. Recreation
Supervisor Hanlon advised Mr. Harrison that staff would look into this situation
and have an answer to him in writing (per his request)by Tuesday, August 29.
She also stated to Mr. Harrison that he is not to park next to any senior vans until
this issue has been resolved due to his threat of a lawsuit.
Mr. Harrison then stated that he would not drive for SNAP because of this.
Recreation Supervisor Hanlon and Bob Weinmann stated that they would drive for
SNAP due to Mr. Harrison's statement. Mr. Harrison also stated that he would be
writing a letter to the City Council.

Brubaker Leaves At 11:37 a.m., Commissioner Brubaker left the meeting.
Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard,
Commissioner Kennedy made a motion for adjournment at 11:45 a.m. which was
seconded by Commissioner Chase and unanimously approved.
