SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
January 18, 1996
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this
date in regular session commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the Rohnert Park Senior
Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chair Chase presiding.
Call to Order Chair Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 1:00 p.m. and led
the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (4) Commissioners Brubaker, Chase, Kennedy and Lyons
Absent: (1) Commissioner Jurgiel
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Supervisor, Mary Hanlon;
Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss; and Councilwoman Linda Spiro.
Approval of
Minutes A motion was made to accept the minutes for the meetings of November 16 was
made by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by Commissioner Brubaker and
unanimously approved.
Acknowledging
0 Posting of
the Agenda Chair Chase stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as
required by law in three (3) public locations within the time period required.
Oath of Office Recreation Supervisor Hanlon administered the Oath of Office to reappointed
Commissioners Kennedy and Lyons.
Emergency Item Commissioner Brubaker moved to add to the agenda the vote by the
Commissioners as to who would be the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Senior
Advisory Commission for 1996. Commissioner Kennedy seconded and the motion
was unanimously approved.
Chair/Vice-Chair Commissioner Kennedy moved and Commissioner Lyons seconded that
Commissioner Chase remain as Chair. It was unanimously approved.
Commissioner Lyons moved and Commissioner Brubaker seconded that
Commissioner Kennedy remain as Vice-Chair which was unanimously approved.

Presentation Councilwoman Spiro presented certificates of appreciation from the City to Evelyn
Kim, who represented the Senior Craft Shoppe, and to Hazel Brubaker, who
represented the senior dining site.
Evelyn Kim gave a brief overview of how the Craft Shoppe was started. She
introduced several volunteers of the Craft Shoppe who were in the audience. She
thanked the City and its officials for its start-up money and the support the Craft
Shoppe has received over the years.
Hazel Brubaker asked some of her dining site volunteers to introduce themselves.
She also thanked the City for its support.
City Council
Liaison Report Councilwoman Spiro reported on the Senior Advisory Commission's previous
request to show the City Council meetings on TV the following day. She stated
these would continue. She also said that during the Council breaks, the City will
be using the time for promotion of City activities.
Councilwoman Spiro also announced that the animal shelter will be getting signage
• posting their hours of operation. Discussion followed on the benefits to seniors
having pets.
Commissioner Lyons moved that the Senior Advisory Commission write a letter to
the City Council asking them to encourage apartment owners to allow pets. The
motion died for lack of a second.
Councilwoman Spiro made a suggestion that if Representative Woolsey does come
to the May Senior Advisory meeting that her challenger also be invited since it's an
election year. Commissioner Brubaker clarified that Representative Woolsey's visit
is only to update the Senior Advisory Commission on what was going on in
Washington, D.C.
A Cotati council member asked Councilwoman Spiro to bring before the Senior
Advisory Commission the idea of a resident discount at the golf courses similar to
what Rohnert Park residents now receive.
Commissioner Kennedy moved to recommend to the City Council that Cotati and
Penngrove residents receive the same resident rates for golf that Rohnert Park
residents do. Commissioner Brubaker seconded the motion which was
unanimously approved.

III Program Specialist
Report Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss, updated the Commission on the following
activities: the November Thanksgiving dinner served 150 dinners, the December
tea dance was cancelled because the Community Center was without power; the
Holiday Open House had 150 in attendance; the December Senior Center
attendance was 6,074; revenues were $6,808.42; the Sunshine Bus had 128
passengers and excursions had 85 participants; the Baking Committee had no
expenses as all were covered by donations; a used clothing sale will be January 19
and 20; the 1995 California Parks and Recreation Society District I award recipient
is Sunshine Bus driver, Joe Menchini; the Super Bowl party is scheduled for
January 28th with the game being shown on the big screen TV recently donated by
Joyce and Jimmie Rogers; and the talent show is scheduled for February 10 and the
fashion show for March 10.
Commissioner Lyons thanked Councilwoman Spiro for serving the pumpkin pies at
the last three Thanksgiving dinners.
Matters from
Commissioners Chairman Chase requested a copy of the purpose of the Senior Advisory
Commission. He asked those in the audience to help out all seniors by writing to
their legislators requesting no adverse changes be made to Medicare.
0 Council Liaison Councilwoman Spiro announced that she had been reassigned to be the liaison
between the Council and the seniors.
Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard,
Commissioner Kennedy made a motion for adjournment at 1:47 p.m which was
seconded by Commissioner Brubaker and unanimously approved.
