1996/11/21 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes 0 CITY OF ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES November 21, 1996 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 1:04 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 6750 Commerce Boulevard, Rohnert Park, with Chair Chase presiding. Call to Order Chair Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 1:04 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call Present: (3) Commissioners Chase, Jurgiel, and Kennedy Late: (2) Commissioners Brubaker and Lyons Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Supervisor, Mary Hanlon, Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss, and Councilmember Linda Spiro. Approval of Minutes A motion was made to accept the minutes for the meetings of September 21 was made by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by Commissioner Jurgiel and unanimously approved. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Chair Chase stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as required by law in three(3) public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Appearances Director of Public Safety, Pat Rooney, gave an overview of the Public Safety Department and how it was created to be a combined police and fire department. He outlined the advantages to having this type of a system that is also augmented by the Public Works Department. He also explained what the purpose of Measure M was. Commissioners Brubaker and Lyons Arrive At approximately 1:05 p.m. Commissioners Brubaker and Lyons arrived. Scheduled Public Appearances None • Page - 1 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes - November 21, 1996 City Council Liaison Report Councilmember Linda Spiro discussed mobile home matters and suggested that at the next Commission meeting real estate representatives be invited to explain what is involved in purchasing a mobile home in Rohnert Park. She also presented information on the "Carrier Alert" program and asked if the Commission would like this program presented to the City Council for possible implementation in Rohnert Park. The Commission approved. Communications Chairman Chase reviewed a new "Vital Information" form that was devised by Dorothy Johnson. This form is for seniors to record all the information necessary for their next of kin in the event of their death. Commissioner Lyons Leaves At approximately 1:25 p.m. Commissioner Lyons left. Program Specialist Report Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss, updated the Commission on the following activities: 6th Year Anniversary Party and Iuncheon; 14th annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Tuesday, November 26; the Senior Center selling KZST and Sonoma Express cards; December 10 Holiday Open House sponsored by the Postal Employees; quilt raffle; and the October "Hands across the County" project where volunteers and staff removed the shrubs in from of the Senior Center and replaced them with concrete and planters. The Rohnert Park Garden Club has "adopted" the Senior Center's flower bed by the flag and the planters in front of the building and will be maintaining and planting flowers in these areas. In October there were 7,354 people attending activities at the Senior Center and $4,958.44 received in revenue. One hundred sixty two people rode the Sunshine Bus and 154 people went on excursions. The Senior Center is now a pick-up point for casino trips by Santa Rosa Charters with the Senior Center receiving money for each participant from Rohnert Park that travels with them. Matters from Commissioners Commissioner Brubaker showed the Commission a medical alert bracelet that held vital information that she has worn for years. She is checking into prices and availability for any other seniors who may be interested. Commissioner Lyons Returns At approximately 1:40 p.m. Commissioner Lyons returned. Future Meeting Locations Commissioner Brubaker moved that the Senior Advisory Commission meetings be moved to the Council Chambers. Commissioner Lyons seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously. 0 Page - 2 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes -November 21, 1996 • Thanksgiving Dinner Councilmember Spiro announced T's Academy's free Thanksgiving Dinner from l0 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Burton Avenue Recreation Center. Meeting Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard, Commissioner Kennedy made a motion for adjournment at 1:50 p.m. which was seconded by Commissioner Jurgiel and unanimously approved.
