SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
March 20, 1997
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this
date in regular session commencing at 1:02 p.m. at the Senior Center, 6800 Hunter
Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chair Chase presiding.
Oath of Office Recreation Supervisor Hanlon administered the Oath of Office to Commissioners
Brubaker, Chase, Johnson and Jurgiel.
Call to Order Chair Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 1:02 p.m. and led
the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (5) Commissioners Chase, Brubaker, Johnson, Jurgiel and Kennedy
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Supervisor, Mary Hanlon;
Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss; and Councilmember Linda Spiro.
Chair/Vice-Chair
• Appointments Commissioner Kennedy nominated Commissioner Chase for Chairman which was
seconded by Commissioner Johnson and unanimously approved. Commissioner
Chase nominated Commissioner Kennedy for Vice-Chair which was seconded by
Commissioner Johnson and unanimously approved.
Approval of
Minutes A motion was made to accept the minutes for the meeting of January 16 was made
by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by Commissioner Chase and unanimously
approved.
Acknowledging
Posting of
the Agenda Chair Chase stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as
required by law in three (3) public locations within the time period required.

City Council
• Liaison Report Councilmember Linda Spiro updated the commission on the automatic doors being
installed at various city facilities.

Communications None
Program Specialist
Report Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss updated the Commission on the following
activities: February attendance was 6,982 with 161 people using the Sunshine Bus
and 57 participants going on excursions. $3,906.20 was collected in fees. In
April there will be a flea market and a fashion show. May is Older Americans
Month and the Center's six and one half year anniversary party. The February
dance attendance was 100 with a revenue of$324. Program Specialist Audiss
updated the Commission on the seminars she attended at the California Parks and
Recreation Society Conference, In May the emergency forms for all Senior Center
participants will be updated..
Recreation Super-
visor Report Recreation Supervisor Hanlon announced that the Department was getting a new
van to be used by the seniors and the after-school program.
Intern Sarah Connelly, an intern from San Francisco State University, introduced herself
and gave an overview of the projects she's working on for the Recreation
Department.•
Matters from
Commissioners Commissioner Kennedy asked if the "Are You OK Program" had added any non-
seniors. Program Specialist Audiss stated there had been none.
Commissioner Chase commended the Senior Center staff for the good work that
they do. He suggested that everyone read the latest Reader's Digest article on
medical alert devices. Discussion followed on the various types of bracelets..
Meeting
Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard,
Commissioner Kennedy made a motion for adjournment at 1:30 p.m. which was
seconded by Commissioner Chase and unanimously approved.
