1997/05/15 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes CITY OF ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES May 15, 1997 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 1:05 p.m. at the Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chair Chase presiding. Call to Order Chair Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 1:05 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call Present: (3) Commissioners Chase, Brubaker, and Kennedy Absent: (2) Commissioners Jurgiel and Johnson Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Supervisor, Mary Hanlon; Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss;and Councilmember Linda Spiro. Agenda Change Councilmember Spiro asked to give her report now as she had another meeting to attend. City Council Liaison Report Councilmember Linda Spiro presented the Senior Advisory Commission with a resolution from the City Council in honor of Older Americans Month. Approval of Minutes A motion was made to accept the minutes for the meeting of March 20 was made by Commissioner Brubaker, seconded by Commissioner Kennedy and unanimously approved. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Chair Chase stated that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as required by law in three(3) public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Appearances Shirley Majors asked about housing and who she could talk to regarding finding some availability. Staff referred her to Dorothy Johnson. Councilmember Spiro introduced Samantha Reslock and Christina Bell from the Rohnert Park Wellness Center. They gave an overview of the current Wellness Center site and the plans to develop it into a community healthcare center that includes: a nutrition clinic, residential care facility, skilled nursing facility, women's resource clinic (with a day care center), rehab center, and center for integrated • healing and medicine (includes a research foundation for alternative medicine). They asked the Senior Advisory Commission what they felt the seniors' unmet Page - 1 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes - May 15, 1997 • needs were and discussed ways they could poll the seniors to answer these questions. They showed a video of a similar center called the Eaton Alternative. Commissioner Chase will write a letter to the Council giving them feedback on the video. A longer, 25-minute tape, will be made available to the Commissioners. Scheduled Public Appearances None COYF Commission Councilmember Spiro announced openings for this newly formed commission. Councilmember Spiro Leaves At 1:45 p.m. Councilmember Spiro left the meeting. Communications None Program Specialist Report Program Specialist, Wendy Audiss updated the Commission on the following activities: April attendance was 6,841 with 169 people using the Sunshine Bus and 87 participants going on excursions. Fees of$3,866.50 were collected. Updates were given on the flea market, fashion show, Tuesday dance and baking committee. The May semi-anniversary party had 72 participants with $524.98 in revenue. The luncheon had 41 participants with $134 in revenue. Upcoming events are the Step Out for Seniors on May 17 and a spaghetti feed on June 14. The new van was delayed due to flooding in the Midwest. Matters from Commissioners None Meeting Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard, Commissioner Kennedy made a motion for adjournment at 1:55 p.m. which was seconded by Commissioner Brubaker and unanimously approved.
