1997/09/18 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes CITY OF ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES September 18, 1997 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chair Chase presiding. Call to Order Chair Chase called the regular session to order at approximately 1:00 p.m and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call Present: (5) Commissioners Brubaker, Chase, Jurgiel, Johnson, and Kennedy Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Supervisor, Mary Hanlon; Senior Scheduler, Vicki Wilkerson; and Councilmember, Linda Spiro. Approval of Minutes A motion was made to accept the minutes for the meeting of July 17 by Commissioner Kennedy, seconded by Commissioner Jurgiel and unanimously approved. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Chair Chase acknowledged that the Secretary/Supervisor had posted the Agenda as required by law in three(3) public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Appearances Bob Weinmann, 979 Golf Course Drive, #132, presented information to the Commission on the proposed "California Fair Tax." He requested a letter of support from the Commission on this proposal. Discussion followed on how this proposal would fund the currently under-funded agencies, i.e., libraries, and how it would handle additional city budget requests. Councilmember Spiro requested further information on the distribution on the monies generated by this proposal. Commissioner Jurgiel requested more in-depth information which Mr. Weinmann provided via handouts. Commissioner Kennedy moved that Chairman Chase write a letter of support for the proposal. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Jurgiel and unanimously approved. Scheduled Public Appearances None City Council Liaison Report Councilmember Linda Spiro announced that there was a group of seniors from • Sonoma State University who would like to survey the seniors to determine if there are any un-met needs. Commissioner Brubaker stated that she has Page - 1 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes - September 18, 1997 • participated in these surveys in the past and has never received the results, even after several requests. Councilmember Spiro assured her that this time she would see the results. Councilmember Spiro announced the Youth and Family Commission has been formed and would welcome input from this body. Communications None Program Specialist Report Senior Scheduler Wilkerson gave this report in Program Specialist Audiss' absence. Senior Center attendance for August was 7,025; fees collected were $4,035.16; 169 passengers rode the Sunshine Bus and 88 went on excursions; and 69 people attended the August 18th choir concert. There are many concerts planned for the future. The baking committee had $86 in cash donations, no expenses and donated supplies valued at $109. Revenues from the last four dances were $1,186.48. Senior Scheduler Wilkerson announced the following events: Twi-night dance on September 21, variety show on November 2, anniversary bingo party on November 8, and the Holiday Dinner Dance on December 14. 0 Matters from Commissioners Commissioner Brubaker showed the Commission a brochure on fungus that she found at the center touting a specific medicine. These brochures were left over from a recently held seminar. Recreation Supervisor Report Recreation Supervisor Hanlon discussed the workload adjustments that have been made in Program Specialist Audiss' absence and updated the Commission on the City's preparation for El Nino. Meeting Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard, Commissioner Jurgiel made a motion for adjournment at 1:56 p.m. which was seconded by Commissioner Brubaker and unanimously approved.
