SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
November 21, 2002
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this
date in regular session commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center, 6800
Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chair Jurgiel presiding.
Call to Order Chair Jurgiel called the regular session to order at approximately 1:00 p.m. and
led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (5) Commissioners Ackerman, Todd, Sampson, Jurgiel, and Kennedy
Absent: (0)
Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Director Tim Barry,
Recreation Specialist Wendy Audiss, City Council liaison Armando Flores, Park
& Recreation Commissioner Gay Carlson.
Approval of
Minutes The minutes of the regular meeting of July 18, 2002 were unanimously approved
as submitted.
Acknowledging
Posting of
the Agenda Chair Jurgiel acknowledged that the Agenda was posted as required by law in
three (3) public locations within the time period required.

City Council
Liaison Report Armando Flores spoke about the recent City Council election, the Rohnert Park
library, PAC message board, and Commission members (see attached handout).
Also, Hazel Brubaker had spoken to Armando about the possibility of a liaison for
seniors who reside in Cotati and who participate in our Senior Center.

Recreation Director
Report Tim Barry congratulated Armando, Arnie& Greg on their recent election
victories. Tim also stressed that we need to be creative as the City is facing a
large deficit. Recreation guide will be out the first week in December. The
department is creating partnerships with private sector. Park& Rec is working on
a 20 year open space master plan. Holiday lights ceremony is Dec. 5 at the Sports
& Fitness Center.
Recreation Specialist The activity room floor has been repaired. We have a new advertiser in the
SCAN— Abby Chapel. 50 Club held their fair and had a good turnout. Our 6th
annual variety show was a hit, with over $2200.00 in profits. 170 tickets sold so
far for our Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 26. Volunteer Appreciation Tea will be
on Wednesday, January 15. Holiday Party on Tuesday, Dec. 17, Wendy attended
the CPRS Aging Section conference at Bass Lake and enjoyed the educational
seminars and networking opportunities. See attached for Senior Center statistics.
Park & Rec Liaison We have a new liaison— Gay Carlson (who has been our liaison in the past).
Welcome back, Gay!
Matters from Georgia brought up the problem of getting information to all seniors,
Commissioners especially those who are neglected by their families. Armando suggested getting
the Boy Scouts to do community service work by going door-to-door with
informational fliers.

Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard,
it was moved by Chair Jurgiel and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 1:26p.m.

1. City Council Election Results
Arnie Spradlin and I were elected to four-year terms. Greg Nordin was
elected to a two-year term.
2. Rohnert Park Library
The mural artist for the Children's Section has begun painting. It is
expected that the move from the old library to the new one will begin on
December 9t. The new library is projected to open for the public on
January 20`h
3. Spreckels Performing Arts Center Message Board
Director Michael Grice believes that the new board will be operational by
December 30t. In addition to providing excellent information regarding
Spreckels productions, the first half-year of revenue should be in excess of
$200,000.
4. Council Officers
New Council members will be seated on December 10th. Also at that
meeting, the Council will select the Mayor and Vice Mayor for 2003.
5. Senior Citizen Commission Members
Members of the Commission are invited to indicate their interest in
serving another term on the Commission. Interest letters or forms should
be sent to the City Offices.
