City Council
Liason Report Armando Flores spoke about the current recessionary period. The Council is
working diligently to continue services and maintain an optimistic outlook. The
Library is holding its dedication on Saturday, August 31 at 11:00am. The railroad
crossings are being improved, and the PAC sign on 101 should be completed by
the end of the year. Water meters will be in by the end of April 2003. Armando
also stated that he will work to maintain senior programs, as seniors have paid
their fair share and it's time for the younger crowd to look out for our seniors.
Recreation Director
Report Tim Barry commented that he is proud of Senior Center staff and volunteers, as
our revenues were $5,000 over budget for 2001-2002. Rec. Dept. is busy with the
pools, camps, etc. City subsidizes recreation programs, but our challenge is to
decrease that subsidy. lie thanked the commission for their support.
Recreation Specialist The Senior Center was under budget in expenses for FY 2001-2002, by about 12
percent! We have a new display case in the lobby, thanks to the Autobiographical
Writing class, who donated it in memory of John Chipps. Our agreement with
Nurse Nicole to provide toenail clipping clinics has earned the Senior Center
$140.00 in two months. The Historical Society held a meeting at the Senior
Center with featured speaker Hugh Codding. Step Out for Senior Centers was a
big success. Our Flea Market and Bake Sale is tomorrow, and we'll also be
selling hot dogs, etc. for lunch. The auction is coming up in August. Wendy is
working with the Bingo Club (Sonoma County Youth Sports)to raise funds for
the Senior Center. The Senior Center was rented out 22 times in June. Total
attendance for June was 6, 499, with total revenues of$5,263.26. Volunteer hours
were 605 for the Senior Center, 171 for the Craft Shoppe, and 157 for the dining
site.
Recreation Coord. Vicki Wilkerson gave her reports on the success of the Baking Committee, and
thanked all the volunteers who help the Senior Center and staff to achieve our
goals.
Park& Rec Liaison Gary Tatman reminded everyone that the P & R Commission meets on the third
Monday of each month. Hot items are the skateboard park, off leash dog park,
and the concern about the use of private carts on the golf course. Gary also
mentioned that in a lot of what they do they keep the seniors in mind. Gary also
thanked the volunteers for their hard work.
Matters from Chair Lee Jurgiel thanked the audience (approximately 25)
