City Council Liaison Report
Mayor Flores reported on the state of the City and passed out a "handout" on
various issues. The Library is now more than 50% complete. There will be a
preview of the new facility and a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on August 30 &
31. It will take approximately 6 weeks to transfer all the books and
equipment to the new Library. Sonoma State's new Music Center is a $40
million dollar project with a large endowment from the Green family. Flores
spoke about the City's financial woes as well as those of the State of
California, as well. The good news is that we are at the end of a three-year
recession and Costco will generate about $800,000 in its first year of
operation. Public Safety will be starting motorcycle patrols to enforce safe
driving, especially around the new Library complex.
Recreation Specialist Report
Wendy Audiss has been involved in the Mandated Reporting program and
indicated that the Senior Center is a designated site. Fortunately, there hasn't
been very much to report over the years, which indicates a safe community
for Rohnert Park. The Semi-Annual Bingo Party was a success, with $412 in
profits being raised. The Black & White Ball was also a huge success, but no
final report has been submitted, to date. Some statistics include $4,020 in
revenues for April and 1028 total volunteer hours. The Karaoke Party was a
lot of fun and brought in $51.
Communications
John Hartnett, who is moving on to a job as a Recreation Superintendent in
Southern California, thanked the Commission and local seniors for
providing an opportunity to work in Rohnert Park. He will continue working
with seniors in his new position. Marion Ackerman indicated that the AARP
Tax Service did a great job for her with her 2001 filings.
