SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
January 17, 2002
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this
date in regular session commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center, 6800 Hunter
Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chair Jurgiel presiding.
Call to Order Chair Jurgiel called the regular session to order at approximately 1:01 p.m. and led
the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (5) Commissioners Bielecki, Jurgiel, Kennedy, Ackerman and Sampson.
Absent: None.
Staff and Commissions/Council present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation
Director, Tim Barry; Recreation Services Manager, John Hartnett; Recreation
Specialist, Wendy Audiss; City Council Liaison, Armando Flores.
Approval of
Minutes The minutes of the regular meeting of November 15, 2001 were unanimously
approved.
Acknowledging
Posting of
the Agenda Liaison Hartnett acknowledged that the Agenda was posted as required by law in
three(3) public locations within the time period required.
Unscheduled Public
Appearances None.
Discussion of
ChairNice-Chair After brief discussion, Bielecki nominated and Kennedy seconded a motion to
nominate Jurgiel to continue as Chairperson for a second year. Kennedy nominated
and Bielecki seconded a motion to nominate Ackerman as Vice-Chairperson. Both
nominations were unanimously approved. All Commissioners felt that since the
Senior Advisory Commission only meets six times per year, it makes sense to have
Chair positions occupied for a two-year term. The Commission will draft a brief
memo to the City Council recommending that the Senior Advisory Chair and Vice
Chair positions be served for two-year terms.
City Council
Liaison Report Flores handed out a list of new Commission Assignments for the City Council for
2002. Flores will continue to serve as the Liaison to the Senior Advisory
Commission. He also passed out a new report on various City Capital Improvement

Projects(CIP). Paving for City railroad crossings are being approved. Barry
indicated that the CIP Projects have been ranked according to priority and that this
is the current list for 2002_ Bielecki asked about the current budget situation. Flores
responded that money is tight right now and that the economy has slowed. Bielecki
asked that if money is tight, why was the Japanese Garden recently approved for
renovation. Flores responded that sometimes Committees raise money for projects
or can find other sources of funds. Bielecki shared that she is concerned with the
cleanliness of some of the pools.
Recreation Specialist
Report Audiss indicated that based on the final figures, the Senior Variety show cleared
over $4,000 in revenue. Audiss reviewed the December events that all raised
money and were enjoyed by all who attended. She reminded everyone that the
Super Bowl party was coming in early February and that there'll be lots of prizes
and raffles. There'll also be a clothing sale in February and another Karaoke event
coming soon.
CPRS Community
Service Awards Audiss indicated that the Annual CPRS Awards Dinner for District 1 would be held
on Saturday, March 2 in Santa Rosa. This year, we will he honoring long time
Senior Center volunteer, Tony Tam, who among other things, coordinates the
Thanksgiving Dinner for the local seniors every year. In addition, members of the
Youth Committee who were instrumental in putting together the plans and
programs for the new "The Vision" teen center will be honored, as well.
Volunteer
Recognition Tea Audiss announced that the 3`d Annual Volunteer Recognition Tea would be held at
the Community Center this year on Wednesday, January 23. Those honored include
volunteers from the Senior Center, Community Garden and Food Bank programs as
well as other deserving volunteers for the Recreation Department. Audiss reviewed
the gifts that will be given out, based on years of service. It will be an "All
American" theme this year, in recognition of the events of 911.
CPRS Achievement
Award Barry indicated that at the Annual CPRS Conference in L.A. this year, the City of
Rohnert Park will receive an "Achievement Award" for the 2001 Senior Variety
Show. This is a State Award and recognizes the outstanding effort of all those
involved with producing the Variety Show.
Communications Jurgiel mentioned the article in the Community Voice about the recent problem
event at the Community Center. Barry indicated that the Recreation and Public
Safety Departments would be meeting soon to discuss policies and procedures
concerning use of the facility. However, all agreed that you really can't predict
what outside elements might effect a good intentioned renter from having a

successful event. Audiss shared that noise and attendance levels are regularly
monitored at Senior Center events. Rielecki shared that AT&T does a good job in
handling customer service and response times to customers. Flores thanked her for
the information, since we usually hear complaints about companies, but rarely
compliments. He added that Council representatives will he meeting with AT&T
soon to review their operations.

Meeting Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to he heard,
it was moved to adjourn the meeting at 1 ;32 p.m.
