SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
March 13, 2003
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this
date in regular session commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center, 6800
Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Vice Chair Kennedy presiding.
Call to Order Vice Chair Kennedy called the regular session to order at approximately 1:00 p.m.
and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Director Tim Barry,
Recreation Specialist Wendy Audiss, City Council liaison Armando Flores, Park
and Recreation Commission Liaison Gaye Carlson, Recreation Coordinator Vicki

Approval of
Minutes The minutes of the regular meeting of January 16, 2003 were approved.
Acknowledging Vice Chair Kennedy acknowledged that the Agenda was posted as required by
law in three (3) public locations within the time period required.

Elections Ann Kennedy moved to nominate Georgia Todd at Chair, seconded by Betty
Tringali. Dorothy Kral nominated Betty Tringali, seconded by Pat Cassinelli.
Betty Tringali respectfully declined. Georgia Todd was elected Chair. Pat
Cassinelli nominated Betty Tringali for Vice Chair, seconded by Dorothy Kral.

City Council
Liaison Report Armando Flores noted with sadness the passing of Lee Jurgiel. City Council to
send condolences to her family. New City Manager, Carl Leivo, experienced in
land planning, which will come in handy with the stadium lands. Armando
reassured the Commission that even during difficult times the Senior Center will
not see a reduction in services or budget. Michael Grice, director of the PAC, will
be moving on to Modesto after this season. He has recommended Mary
McDougall as new administrator of PAC. Armando let the commissioners know
that the council is always open to listen to seniors.
Recreation Specialist Wendy Audiss reported that we have gone through the grant process for our
annual Older Americans Act grant. There will he a presentation at the Area
Agency on Aging on April 2. We have been awarded a one-time grant to
purchase a video magnifier, which will be delivered tomorrow. We have new
regular rental groups: NA on Thursdays, AA on Mondays, and a new kid's kung
fu class will begin 3 times a week, May— August. Our intergenerational program
"connections across generations" has 2 groups; with approx. 20 seniors
participating. Upcoming events include a rummage sale and a bingo party, both
in April. See attached for statistics.
Recration Coord. Vicki Wilkerson reported that the Super Bowl Party had a profit of approx.
$2,300. She thanked the council members who served hors'douvres. Jimmie and
Joyce Rogers sponsored the football throw, pool, and donated a computer to the
Senior Center. She is now working on the Black & White Ball, to be held May 10
at the Community Center. There will be a silent auction. All the money that she
has spent to date has been donated.
Recreation Director
Report Tim Barry reported that the Park & Rec Commission has added 2 slots. There are
4 new members: Michele Rogers, Mike Bird, Bill butler, Sashi Hoteling. The 2
new spots emphasize children & families. Tim congratulated Wendy on her
installation as president of CPRS District 1. There was an awards banquet on
March I at the Community Center. Nancy Kaufman found grant opportunity for
improvements to facilities— could apply re: floor in the Community Center MU;
play equipment at ladybug, or A park tennis courts. Tim is always on the look out
for grant opportunities.
Park & Rec Liaison Tim stole her report (about P& R commission members). Skate park still on the
burner. Focus has been on activities for toddlers. Continue work on plans for
Park & Rec master plan. She is available to listen to suggestions re: activities for
seniors.

Matters from
Commissioners Ann Kennedy asked Tim about the skate park. A site has been picked, working
on agreement with property owners fro access. Also working on noise studies.
Ann also brought up the loss of handicap parking spaces at the Raley's Towne
Center. Tim will research, the write a letter of request from the Commission to
the council for Codding Enterprises.
Georgia Todd brought up getting information to those at the Altamont about
activities at the Senior Center. She suggested one-on-one meetings, maybe with
Boy Scouts. Tim or Gaye will contact Bill Butler. Wendy wjll create a handout.

Adjourned There being no further business to discuss and no one further desiring to be heard,
it was moved by and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 1:30p.m.
