2003/05/15 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes CITY OF ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES May 15, 2003 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Vice Chair Ackerman presiding. Call to Order Chair Todd called the regular session to order at approximately 1:00 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call Present: (4) Commissioners Kral, Todd, Tringali, and Kennedy Absent: (1) Cassinelli Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Director Tim Barry, Recreation Specialist Wendy Audiss, City Council liaison Armando Flores. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the regular meeting of March 20, 2003 were unanimously approved as submitted. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Chair Todd acknowledged that the Agenda was posted as required by law in three (3) public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Bob Doney, Project Coordinator for the AARP Tax Aid Program, Appearances thanked the Senior Center for the use of the room, and presented the Alice Stephenson Quality Site Award to Wendy. Mr. Doney also presented an envelope with $512 in it, which were the donations received for the tax assistance. Scheduled Public Appearances None City Council Liaison Report Congratulated Vicki Wilkerson and her crew for another great Black & White Ball. Distributed a handout re: City Council reorganization— Vicki Vidak- Martinez stepped down as mayor. Armando is now mayor, and Greg Nordin is vice-mayor. Armando also discussed the Community Fields Project and the Memorial Day Ceremonies on Monday, May 26 at the Community Center. Page - 1 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes May 15, 2003 Armando also told the commission to feel free to contact him at anytime, and thanked the Commission for their continued service. He also noted that Rohnert Park is noted for outstanding senior programs. Recreation Director Tim Barry announced that his position was being eliminated, and that July 31' would be his last day. He is looking for another job. Amanda Houseman's position was also eliminated, and Wendy Audiss will be assuming many of her duties with youth programs. The City is serious financial trouble. Recreation Specialist Wendy Audiss reported that the Rohnert Park Chorale made a $100 donation to the Senior Center, as a thank you for us allowing them to use our facility for rehearsals. Program support staff was treated to a lunch at the Rooster Run Golf Course in Petaluma for the CPRS annual support staff recognition lunch. April statistics were discussed (see attached) Recreation Coord. Vicki Wilkerson reported on the Black & White Ball. The silent auction brought in over $3,000. Jimmie and Joyce Rogers have donated a storage shed to be installed on Dorothy Delnevo's property— this is where we will store out decorations. Vicki thanked all of her volunteers for 4 days of set up and 1 day of clean up for the Ball. Park & Rec Liaison Absent. Matters from Commissioners Georgia Todd brought up the changes in the handicap parking spaces at Raley's Towne Center. Tim will follow up. Dorothy Kral bought us the issue of the trash collection— that the trucks are breaking off trash can lids, driving over cans. Armando will pass this information along.
