2004/01/15 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes CITY OF ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES January 15, 2004 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Vice Chair Ackerman presiding. Call to Order Chair Todd called the regular session to order at approximately 1:00 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call Present: (5) Commissioners Todd, Kral, Tringali, Cassinelli, Ackerman Absent: (0) Staff present for all or part of the meeting: Recreation Services Manager Guy Miller, Recreation Specialist Wendy Audiss, Recreation Coordinator Vicki Wilkerson, City Council liaison Armando Flores, Park& Recreation Commissioner Gay Carlson. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the regular meeting of November 20, 2003 were unanimously approved as submitted. Acknowledging Posting of the Agenda Chair Todd acknowledged that the Agenda was posted as required by law in three (3) public locations within the time period required. Unscheduled Public Appearances None Scheduled Public Appearances None City Council Liaison Report Armando Flores has been reappointed liaison to the commission. He introduced Marion Ackerman as newly appointed Commissioner. Oath of Office was given to Ms. Ackerman. Mr. Flores then related council liaison assignments, city Page - 1 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes January 15, 2004 improvement projects in the neighborhoods A, B, & L, and restoration of original City Hall on Southwest Boulevard to a full service fire station. Commissioner Ackerman commented on a space for the Historical Society's collection. Park & Rec Liaison Gay Carlson gave an overview of what the commission is up to—Dog Park, Best Friends Canine Club; better working relationship wit the school district. Ladybug Park equipment replacement. Development of facilities and "Park Watch" program. Recreation Svcs Manager Guy Miller spoke about the renovation of Burton Ave, and that ADA requirements will be addressed in Phase 11. The Community Center will have it's beam replacement May—July, so the lobby will be closed during that time. There was a fire at Ladybug and the building is closed during clean up. Recreation Coord. Vicki Wilkerson handed out monthly statistics for Nov. & Dec. Flu Shot clinic gave 210 injections. Holiday party had choirs from Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Windsor sing to a full house. National Bank of the Redwoods donated 18 turkeys to give away, plus we made $90 on a raffle. Sales of a Christmas CD have netted $110. Volunteer Tea was held in January. Feb. 1 S'is the annual Super Bowl Party. Other February events include clothing sale, beginning of AARP Tax Assistance and the start of the Connections Across Generations discussion groups. Variety Friday will be held on the 20t. The Senior Center is planning an 11 day curise on Princess in the Fall. Volunteer Martha Waller is planning the day van trips. Betty Tringali is working on Bingo Parties. New additions to the drop in include a new table, chairs, TV, cabinet and coffee table. Cordless mics for the activity room should be installed in a week or so, purchased with a $1,000 donation from the Craft Shoppe. Matters from Betty Tringali wrote a letter to Sonoma County Transit regarding the stop at Kaiser. New schedules are being printed, and they have included a stop at Kaiser beginning January 12.
