2004/03/18 Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Minutes • CITY OF ROHNERT PARK SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES March 18, 2004 The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park met this date in regular session commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Chair Todd presiding. Call to Order Chair Todd called the regular session to order at approximately 1:05 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll Call Present: (5) Commissioners Todd, Kral, Tringali, Cassinelli, Ackerman Absent: (0) Staff present for all of meeting: Recreation Coordinator Vicki Wilkerson. Staff absent: Recreation Specialist Wendy Audiss, City Council Liaison Armando Flores, Park & Recreation Commissioner Gaye Carlson and Recreation Services Manager Guy Miller. After roll call, Chairman Todd submitted her resignation to the Board, as she will be relocating to Napa County on May 1, 2004. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the January 15, 2004 meeting were not made available to the Commissioners for approval. Posting of the Agenda Due to the absence of the Secretary/Recreation Specialist, Chair Todd could not acknowledge that the posting of the Agenda as required by law was performed. Unscheduled Public Appearances None City Council Liaison Report City Council Liaison absent — no report Recreation Services Manager Report Guy Miller was absent. Park & Rec. Liaison Gaye Carlson was absent. Recreation Spec. Wendy Audiss was absent. Recreation Coord. Vicki Wilkerson reported on January and February statistics: two checks from the craft shop totaling $295; Units of Service totaling 938.5 and 914.5 respectively; January rentals $2,500. 10 and February rentals $3,331.10. Transportation (Sunshine Bus, Casino and Travel with Martha) 113 total. Donations totaled $247 for the two months. The Superbowl party brought in $2,619; the Used Clothing Sale on Feb.6 had a profit of$364.35 (Vicki commented we should have this sale twice a year.) The program "Connections Across Generations" was being held again this year with two groups meeting on Friday — one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We received $119.40 from the Feb. 10 Shodakai Casino trip; the AARP Tax Program is doing very well — more people than ever as it is now for all ages, not just seniors. February 27 was our Cruise Party — 42 signed up; July 2 is the last day to sign up. On 2/28 the California Park & Rec. Society had their annual awards banquet in which Betty and Joe Tringali were presented with their Community Service Award for 2003; Betty has also been hired as a part-time employee with the title Recreation Coordinator. On March 5 the first Fund Raising Committee meeting was held. I lopefully the Committee will come up with two fundraisers a month — nothing too big. Friday, April 9, is the next meeting. Vicki announced a new "Chat Corner" program similar to the old Current Events. If interested, see Vicki. It is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30-12:00. A stamp workshop is in the works -there will he a free demonstration in the dining room on Tues. April 20 at 1 :00 p.m. Computer lessons will be starting— these will be private lessons on a brand new computer. You must sign up at the front desk. End of March , there's a trip to the Jelly Belly Factory and Anheuser-Busch Brewery—there will be three vans; there is a waiting list. On April 6, Asian Art Museum trip; April 13 Shodakai; April 16 Bingo Party and Hot Dog Friday; April 17 Paramount Theater trip; April 20 Stamp class; April 21 Seminar; May 11 Casino trip; May 14 Variety Friday. Matters from Commissioners Established next meeting as May 20.
