SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
MAY 20, 2004
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park
met this date in regular session commencing at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center,
6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Vice-Chair Tringali presiding.
Call to Order Vice-Chair called the regular session to order at approximately 1:05 p.m.
and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (3) Commissioners Kral, Tringali, and Cassinclli.
Absent: (1) Ackerman
Staff present for al] of meeting: City Council Liaison Armando Flores,
Recreation Services Manager Guy Miller and Recreation Supervisor Vicki
Wilkerson.
Staff absent: Park & Recreation Commissioner Gaye Carlson.
Approval of
Minutes The minutes of the March 18, 2004 meeting were approved as submitted.
Posting of the
Agenda Vice Chair Tringali acknowledged that the Agenda was posted as required by
law in three (3) public locations within the time period required.
Unscheduled
Public
Appearances Paul Aston asked the commission for information as to whom he could talk to
about his concerns. After discussion, he was advised to meet with Vicki or
Berni for appropriate direction.
City Council
Liaison Report Councilman Flores presented and distributed a proposal to the Commissioners
and Staff in response to a letter from Commissioner Tringali suggesting the
Commission be disbanded. After discussion of his proposal, Commissioner
Kral made some suggestions regarding the make-up and duties of the
Commission. Commissioner Kral also asked if there was a policy statement
regarding the duties and responsibilities of the Commissioners. Mr. Flores will
check on this and provide the information at our next meeting. After further
comments by Staff and Commissioners, it was agreed that Mr. Flores present
his proposal as written to the City Council for their consideration. Hopefully,
we will have the Council's response at our next meeting in September.
It was agreed that a formal vote by the Commission on the Commission
Proposal was not necessary since we all approved Mr. Flores' presentation.
Park & Rec. Liaison In Gaye Carlson's absence, Guy Miller reported on a new program
called "Adopt A Park" and also on the new dog park on Roberts Lake Road.
Recreation Services
Manager Report Guy also announced the Community Center's front lobby will be undergoing
major construction beginning Monday, May 24, and will be closed off for
approximately three weeks. All the front offices will be relocated during that
time. Guy reported that Chuck Rogers was appointed as a new member of the
Park and Recreation Commission by Vicki Vidak Martinez.
Recreation
Supervisor Report Vicki Wilkerson reported on the number of'activities for the two-month period
(March and April): Department — 86; Non-Department — 131. Total attendance
for the same period: Department and Non-Department — 14,692. Fees
collected: Senior programs - $6,325.90; Center Rentals - $3,378.00; total
income - $9,703.90.
Vicki also announced that Congresswoman Lynn Woolsley will be giving a talk
here at the Center about "Republican Medicare Bill" and how it will affect
seniors. Brownie Troop 4196 donated $83 in pennies to the Center, which
they had saved. The "Getaway" cruise to Mexico is sold out— 57 people have
signed on. There will be a new "Travel Page" added to the S.C.A.N. each
issue. There will be an overnighter to the Reno Hilton on October 26-27 and in
December (14-16)there is a trip to San Luis Obispo, visiting Hearst Castle
