SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
January 19, 2006
The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Rohnert Park
met this day in regular session commencing at 1: p.m. at the Senior
Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, Suite A, Rohnert Park, with Vice Chair
Ackerman presiding.
Call to Order Vice Chair Ackerman called the regular session to order at approxi-
mately 1:00 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call Present: (4) Commissioners; Ackerman,Cassinelli,Ferra and Sampson.
Staff present: Recreation Supervisor Vicki Wilkerson,Recreation
Coordinator Betty Tringali, Secretary Berri Altman,City Council
Liaison Armando Flores.

City Council Armando Flores updated the actions being done regarding the
Liaison excessive rainfall. The soil is totally saturated. On Dec. 31 there
Report was 5.8" in 24 hours. This was the most ever in the city. Drain
systems plugged, the Cook Creek sedimentation basin that was
built overflowed. The city is clearing channels so it won't happen
again. It took a week to return to normal. There are many new
potholes and a lot of work to do regarding the infrastructure.
Casino update: The environmental report dealing in part with drainage,
water, and sewer connections should be finished in the spring of next
year. Then the land should be taken into trust and construction could
begin in the spring of 2008. It is expected to take a year to construct.

Report
Recreation Vicki Wilkerson has a lot to report. There is a class for writing for
publication publication which will last 12 weeks and will cost $120.00.
Supervisor There are 6 signed up so far.
Report
The Super Bowl Party will be Feb. 5 at 2:00 p.m. Cost$10.00 in
advance or $12.00 at the door. The big raffle prize is on display in the
lobby. It was donated by Jimmy and Joyce Rogers and valued at
$1500.00. It depicts a pass caught by Dwight Yoakum thrown
by Joe Montana. Tickets are $1.00 per ticket,6 for$5.00 and for
each $25.00 you receive 10 extra tickets.
Income tax season is starting and Friday,Feb. 10 the volunteers
from AARP will begin assisting tax payers with their forms.
The center has 2 new computer classes, both on Tuesday. One
from 9:00 to 12:00 a.m. or 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Well qualified
teachers and cost is $10.00 per hour. Appointments by Bernie.
There is a 7 day all inclusive trip to Puerta Vallerta Nov. to
8th, 2006. Cost $1325,00 per person. Presentation at senior center.

Feb. Memory Maximizing.
Feb. 24 Amazing phones. Telephone access program.
Secure The Call is a non-profit group that takes used cell phones
and programs them to make 911 calls for people that need them
for that purpose only. They will be distributed from the senior
center. 20 have been ordered . Sampson to help give them out.
The craft fair on Feb 11 and 12. Big room sold out. Each vendor
is asked to contribute one item for our raffle. Drop in will sell
coffee and goodies. Fun after 50 will sell hot dogs.
Vicki went to the managers of The Roxy and Pacific theaters to
ask about the possibility of free movies for seniors. Armando will
see about making free movies available. Betty Ferra had tried to
have one screen set aside for foreign films when the Pacific theater
opened.
Vicki reported on the numberof activities for the fourth quarter
(October-December)of the fiscal year 2004-2005: Department-
214; Non-Department-123. Total attendance for the same period:
Departmental and Non-Departmental 20,018. Fees collected:
Senior Programs-S8,207.44; Senior Rentals $5,575.36; Total income-
$13,782.80. The number of volunteer hours for the three-month period
totaled 3,049. (This includes Senior Center, Craft Shop and Dining
Site.)
Matters from Sampson asked the Senior Advisory commissioners to approve for her
Com to present her 911 cell phone call findings to the City Council and to
missioners request the City Council to take action to provide the technology
required in order for Rohnert Park to take their fair share of 911 cell
phone calls. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to make said
appearance.
Matters Hertzel asked if there is a way that the Black and White Ball could be
From reinstated as one of the important fund raisers for the Senior Center.
Guests This was referred to the Support Committee. Also Armando Flores
said it could be explored. He will mention it to Steve Donnelly in order
to set up parameters and see if the City Council could help.
Adjourn- There being no further business and no one further desiring to be heard,
mcnt it was moved and seconded to adjourn meeting at 2:45 p.m.
