Recreation Supervisor
Vicki Wilkerson's report included coverage from July through August and is attached.
Other figures she announced are: COA Dining Site- 513 attended.
A very nice gentleman donated a brand new freezer for COA's use; asked us if there
anything else we wanted! He was thanked by Senior Center and City of Rohnert Park.
Craft Shop- 220 visitors....Volunteers- 211 hours, Sr. Center received $104.00. When
people attend activities they go into the Craft Shop. Hertzel suggested we post signs
"Don't forget to visit the Craft Shop".
Fundraiser Committee:
The POA and Games day on August 20th was successful in the amount of people who
came for the breakfast. The Police Officers Association paid for all the food items to be
cooked and served. The $5.00 included both the breakfast and games.
Unfortunately the new Doggie Park opened on the same day so we did not have the
attendance we would like. It was suggested that the City Recreation Dept. not plan the
various events on the same day. Vicki said there should be a special calendar so
departments do not conflict. It was thought that the Chamber should do it (noone wants
to handle it).
So it was mostly volunteers who played and won the prizes. The grand prize was a$100
certificate to use at Latitude restaurant. It was disappointing our seniors do not
participate and support the events which are fundraisers for the Center. Thank you letters
were sent to the POA.
We have an opportunity for a fundraiser offered by Cold Stone Creamery to sell ice
cream pies, various choices. The price would be$17.00 and the Center would get $5.00
for each pie sold. We would get the order and money; give coupons to the person to pick
pie up at the Creamery. It's a win win situation; we will get flyers and sell now through
December.
Betty Ferra thought class leaders could make announcements. Vicki will ask them. If we
advertise, money comes out of fundraising expense/profit. Betty suggested sandwich
boards.
Hertzel's suggested putting signs up about cholestoral, sugar dangers, etc. in Activity
Room. Vicki said we can't because of rentals; we do have information in hallway.
Other Items for Discussion
Staff has discussed raising the Sunshine Bus Fare; bump it up $1.00($.50 each way); and
also not to take van to Santa Rosa on Thursdays with less than two passengers. We will
talk to Dial-a-ride and Carol Martin at Council on Aging.
Vicki would like to change name of Board of Directors inasmuch as it has no power to
make policy, etc.(unlike Vintage Senior Center which is private with a 25 member
Board). As a group we voted to change name to SENIOR CENTER SUPPORT
COMMITTEE.
Hertzel talked about getting a traffic ticket which he decided to question in court. After
telling his story the judge asked the audience what they thought and unanimously they
said "not guilty"! Evidently the judge was in favor of volunteerism.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at approximately 2:18 pm.
meeting is ay, January 19, 2006 after Senior Advisory.
