2002/02/14 Senior Center Board of Directors Minutes • Rohnert Park Senior Center Board of Directors MINUTES Thursday, February 14, 2002 1:17pm roll call Present: Brubaker; Jurgiel; McDouall; Fuhs; Tringali; Audiss; Barry; Wilkerson; Hartnett Absent: Schaeffer; Hartnett; Kennedy; Approval of Minutes M/S Vicki/Hazel Unscheduled Public Appearances - none **New Business** none **Board Member Reports** Fun After 50: Over 100 at each weekly meeting. Trying to make room for new members. Lee won the Valentine contest. Total 434 for January. Dining Site: (per Hazel) 53 home deliveries. Hazel to come in one day to show Pam where everything is. 494 congregate diners for January. Gift Shoppe: $760.40 in sales, $76.00 to Senior Center, $560.00 in commissions, 29 checks. No new consignors. 247 visitors. The Shoppe is having a booth at the Senior Celebration in March in Santa Rosa. Jeanne Mahoney is in charge — they will be looking for new volunteers and new consignors. Senior Advisory: Jan. 17th meeting. Lee Jurgiel is the new chair. Letter to City Council recommending that the chair be a two year position. Marion Ackerman is VP. Armando to continue as liaison. Wendy updated the commission on events. The Rec. Dept. will be honoring Tony Tam 3/2 at the CPRS District I awards banquet for his work on the seniors Thanksgiving Dinner every year. The dept. held its volunteer tea. Senior Variety show will receive an Award of Merit in April at the conference in Los Angeles. • • Recreation Specialist: See attached for statistics. Wendy reviewed the clothing sale on February 8, volunteer tea, Karaoke party, AAA monitoring, SSU Symposium on Service Learning, excursions, and the Senior Celebration on March 11. Recreation Coordinator: Baking committee rec'd no cash, $77.36 in supplies, and had no expenses. They baked for the Super Bowl party in addition to regular activities. Super Bowl sold $753 in tickets, $825 in raffles, $989 for the jersey, $87.25 in soda sales and $255 donated from stores (with $165 left over for use at the Choir concert). Total profit is $2,676.20. 19 volunteers helped with the event. Black & White Ball flyer is done. Theme is "Puttin on the Ritz," with music by DJ Steve Luther. Exchange Bank is sponsoring the hors d'ouevres, Rotary is doing the bar. Choir concert is scheduled for June 30 w/lunch. Vicki is coordinating a show at the Scottish Rite, the Senior Center will receive $1,500, plus $50.00 to each individual act. Performance will be on July 13. Recreation Services Manager: Activity guide for spring/summer will be out April 1 . Lots of new camps, plus the usual assortment. John is going to the CPRS District 1 Teen Workshop tomorrow in Santa Rosa. Recreation Director: March 15 is the commissioner and board members appreciation dinner at the Performing Arts Center, dinner and a show. Budget projections show a bleak picture. Unless changes are made we may face serious cutbacks in programs and staffing. City Council is looking to increase taxes and try to continue the tradition of providing quality programs and services. Costco coming in will help. Apartments will be built where the old city hall is after the new one is built. Skate park is struggling, fundraising needed as the city is providing only a small amount of money. Old library's fate still not decided **Other Items for Discussion** Vicki thanked Hazel for visiting Oliver's and getting a $100.00 donation from them, when in past years they only donated $15-20. Tim noted that Wendy had been on Street Beat the week before, and is scheduled to be on again on May 7t.
