First of all, I'd like to thank the Senior Center, for over ten years of support to our group,
The SENIORS CRAFT SHOP, especially Wendy Audiss, who has given us her time and
energy. We realize that the shop does not always generate enough income to justify our
presence. Our main goal has always been to provide a place where seniors can sell their
hand-made articles, which adds to their income and gives them a sense of pride and
accomplishment.
At the request of the Senior Center, we are now in the process of being downsized. We
will be moving our fixtures and furniture out of the space we use for our office into the
shop, as of April 25 & 26, so that the center will have more rental space available.
We have now received a request from Tim Barry (Friday, March,1-0), to consider taking a
two-year hiatus. My answer to this is simply, "we would cease to exist". Mr. Barry also
suggested that we allow card player to use our shop. I'm sure our insurance would not
cover such an arrangement. I asked Mr. Barry if that meant the City would rescind our
lease, which expires December 31, 2004. I don't recall an answer to this question. I
cannot answer for our B:wd of Directors, so we will hold a special meeting, at which
time, I will present to the Board several alternatives as to how to handle this situation.
You will receive a formal letter stating how we will respond to Mr. Barry's and the RP
City management's suggestions.
Our Group paid for a space at the "Senior Celebration" fair. It was well worth our time
and effort. We sold more merchandise than we had anticipated. And we had a good time.
Jeanne Mahoney was in charge, assisted by Elenore Schoen. I was supposed to leave
after set-up, but it was too much fun. Our main purpose was to let people know what we
do, where we are located and show with great pride our merchandise, also to try recruit
more volunteers.
Our sales figures for the month of February were low but our March totals will be higher
due to the revenue generated at the fair.
